    Bored at work, i thought of this wicked idea for a topic..........

    I am going to prove that Houllier was a better Liverpool manager than Benítez so far.

    Houllier vs Benítez

    98-04 - Time at Liverpool - 04-09

    £119,450,000 - Money spent - £247,730,000

    £57,090,000 - Players sold - £134,080,000

    £62,360,000 - Net spend - £113,650,000

    Houllier won:
    League Cup - 01

    Benítez won:

    Some of you might say: hold up Batman, Rafa won the Champions League. This is a major trophy.

    It was a lucky win, think about it.........

    Rafa won the Champions League with the squad that Houllier had built.

    2 seasons later when Liverpool played Milan again in the Champions League final:
    • The Liverpool team was better in Rafa's eyes because he had got rid of alot of Houllier's signings and signed alot of new players that he wanted.
    • The Milan team was weaker compared to the team 2 seasons ago.
    • But this time Liverpool did not win, it was Milan and not on penalties

    Also Houllier finished 2nd once, and that's the best Benitez has done, he's only challenged for the title once. So in terms of league stuff it's fairly similar. Obviously if you go into fine detail it could favour benitez im not sure...but i don't see what doing well in the last 10 game sand getting from 5th to 3rd means when you've won fuck all and you've got nowhere Laughing

    Point is, if you are to proclaim to be one of the very best in the EPL, you have to measure yourself in being in the top 3-4 in the league consistently and being able to win the big trophie (CL or PL). I am just guessing this is the criteria for LIVERPOOL fans and that reason alone makes Benitez more succesful than Houllier.

    Well i'd rather win something every year than secure 3rd consistently and win zilch. You end up with a team of losers and are less likely to win a big thing IMO.
