Spain could take as many as nine or ten midfield players. And as far as the non-fundamental players (Xavi, Iniesta, Silva, Alonso, Cesc) there could be a lot of debate. Probably enough good midfielders for two or three teams actually. Who would you bring?

My post from the other thread:
Casillas, Reina, Asenjo
Ramos, Arbeloa
Puyol, Marchena
Pique, Albiol
Capdevila, Monreal
Senna, Xabi Alonso, Busquets
Iniesta, Navas
Xavi, Cesc
Silva, Mata
Villa, Torres, Llorente
IMO the only questions are:
1. Whether it should be Busquets or an extra forward...if Navas can't make it, then definitely an extra forward because Cazorla has had quite a few injury problems this year and Pablo's early form seems to have cooled down a bit and Joaquin isn't at the level of all these other options
2. Asenjo or Diego Lopez
3. Monreal or Iraola...with Arbeloa covering the opposite flank to whoever is picked

If we are picking at the moment I don't see how you can take Senna based on form. He's been injured or sh!t for most of the season. Busquets has also shown that he is not really ready for the big time yet.
Xavi, Iniesta, Alonso, Cesc, and Silva are guarantees assuming there is no injuries. Beyond that, Del Bosque seems to want to have a couple of wide players and for that purpose I would take Navas and Mata.
Then, I would have no problems taking Javi Martinez as understudy for Alonso. Though, if Del Bosque is trying to have options in other parts of the pitch, he could easily just take Alonso and then have Marchena or Albiol as options to play as DM.
Also, picking right now, I would take Canales. Nobody in la liga has been in better form than him I don't care if he is 18 or if he was not going to sign for Real Madrid.

Re:Senna
I didn't know it was about current, i thought it was about who could make the best midfield compliment, and i think Senna when fit and on form should start along side Xavi in midfield.
with Alonso and busquets on the bench, who DB seems to be favouring over him recently.
If Alonso starts in the world cup, spain won't win, but i hope i am wrong.
Busquets is barca so i didn't expect you to say anything different, but i don't think their as been a better spanish DM than him this season, certainly not javi, who has been good, but is passing isn't up their with the rest of the spanish midfielders, neither is busquet's, but his is better.
if were are picking right now, then yes the likes of canales and pedro would be their, but i don't see them making the final list come June.

Huh...I don't think Busquets has been that good this year. Of course he's good with the ball but his tendency to make mistakes could kill Spain in a knockout tournament.
And I also don't agree that Alonso starting means Spain won't win. Of course Senna has the track record, but IMO Alonso is pretty good as a deep midfielder too. As Jaime says, just because someone is not black doesn't make them a bad DM.
Canales is an interesting one. Certainly he's made a big impact so far and has quality (or is quality), but I can't help but think that if he went it would be a Walcott situation. ie. he tags along but never really plays. If it's purely a young impact sub that's required, then Pedro is a decent option (though I wouldn't go with him myself). He is also a wide player as compared to Canales who is more central, and there are already lots of central players in the squad.

Senna continues to play well for Spain when called upon (and always has done); I wouldn't look too much into his form with Villarreal as the side as a whole has been underperforming.
I would be inclined to go with Kas' picks, though I wouldn't be adverse to seeing Cazorla, or Martinez getting the nod in front of Mata & Busquets respectively. I actually think Navas is a must, just because of his blistering pace, and again he offers something a little different to the rest of prospective squad.

Alonso is excellent a deep midfield, but with xavi in the team that's not what Spain need.
06 WC, Xavi and Alonso, Spain lose
08 Euro's Xavi and Senna, Spain Win
Confed cup: Xavi and Alonso, Spain Lose
I'm not saying Alonso isn't good, but their is a reason why people were arguing as to who was spain's best player at the Euros and the names were Xavi and Senna.
Senna offers them that "blackness " that they lack with Alonso in the team IMO, be is a better DM than Alonso will ever been and can pass the ball as well, with alonso in the team he and xavi sometimes step on each others foot.

Cesc is better than Alonso (although plays further forward generally). He'd be perfect cover to have if Xavi/Iniesta are injured. And he's on great form this season.
Would be bizarre to not even have him in the squad in my opinion..

I think Alonso's passing range is better, and like you said he plays deeper, which makes him a better backup for Xavi.
True he could replace Iniesta, but then they have players like Mata and Carzola who would be better playing in the wide attacking roles than Cesc.

Cesc will be starting for Spain ffs.
Guest- Guest
if their is one player he can't replace it's Iniesta, he would be a better bet to replace Xavi.
Cesc can't play as effective on the wing as iniesta can.
He should make the squad, but not the XI, i won't want him their because i fear, DB might risk play, Xavi,Cesc and Alonso in midfield and we saw were that got them at the confed cup.

Alonso: maybe if spain really want to fuck their best chance of winning the WC in years and its already fuck with Alonso in there instead of Senna.
iniesta: Can't
Villa: No
Torres: No
He will be a super sub and in the Xi if the want to go 4-1-4-1

I agree with this. In Euro 2008 they had a very balanced midfield, even if that meant having players like Alonso and Cesc on the bench.

In the real world, a world outside of the Prem, Cesc doesn't have a place in the starting XI, he just isn't good enough.
if they try and force him in there, spain will be giving away their best chance ever of winning the cup.
