Italy did not have a fixed starting line up in 2006, and still don't, but let me take a shot at this:

2006: Buffon, Zambrotta, Nesta, Cannavaro, Grosso, Gattuso, Pirlo, De Rossi, Camoranesi, Totti, Toni

2010 (expected): Buffon, Zambrotta, Chiellini, Cannavaro, Grosso, Marchisio, Pirlo, De Rossi, Camoranesi, Totti, Gilardino

Not much has changed, yet so much difference in quality compared to 2006, how has your wc2010 starting 11 changed? Icon_sad

Actually, all 3 of the names that have changed could make a comeback into the team!!!

2006 team, almost certain to not play this WC:

    Zidane (first XI)
    Makelele (first XI)
    vieira (first XI)
    Thuram (first XI)
    Sagnol (first XI)
    Barthez (first XI)
    Coupet (second choice GK)
Trezeguet (first XI by tactical choice and second choice striker)
    Wiltord (solid squad member)
    Dhorasoo (Razz reserve)
    Silvestre (reserve)

    Beat THAT !

About our current XI - who the fuck cares?! That bastard will pick according to astrology signs.

The England side is a more more balanced, but still Gerrard and to some extent Lampard are playing out of position.

Players like Zambrotta, Gattuso, Cannavaro, Toni etc. were playing great before WC06 and were among the best in their position. They've all declined significantly since then, though i guess this was expected since most of the players who won the WC were in their late 20s/early 30s.

I'm going to do one for argentina

    -----------Pato

    ---Burdisso---Ayala--Heinze---Sorin

    ------------Masch---Cambiaso

    ----Maxi-------------------------Roman

    --------------Saviola---Crespo

    2010

    ------------------Remero

    -----?--------Demi----Heinze---?

    ----Maxi----Masch----Veron----Di maria

    --------------Messi----Higuain

if you look at it their really isn't that much difference in the teams, except that the had Ayala to marshall their defense and Roman to build their attacks.

    Spain

1 Iker Casillas; 3 Mariano Pernia, 5 Carles Puyol, 15 Sergio Ramos,
    22 Ibanez Pablo; 8 Hernandez Xavi, 14 Xabi Alonso, 16 Marcos Senna;
9 Fernando Torres, 11 Luis Garcia, 21 David Villa.

Thats the XI they played for the 1st two games, with Raul replacing Garcia and Cesc replacing Senna for the france game.

    No wonder they lost.

    Now

    Iker,Ramos,Puyol,Pique,Capdevilla,Silva,Xavi,Alonso,Iniesta,Villa and torres.
