Thought I'd make one to attempt to keep anyone who's interested up to date with the team. There's plenty of good players there who will be gracing bigger teams and better leagues over the next few years.

Anyways, I'll try and keep everyone who is interested as upto date as possible with the goals from each game (where possible).

Here's this season's current squad, those in italic are players worth looking out for in fure:

    Goalkeepers

    1. Pletikosa, Stipe

    35. Shust, Bogdan

    12. Shutkov, Dmytro

    Defenders

    27. Chygrynskyy, Dmytro

    3. Hübschman, Tomas

    36. Elano (Elano Blumer)

    7. Fernandinho

    19. Gai, Olexiy

    38. Jadson

    9. Matuzalem, Francelino da Silva

    33. Srna, Darijo

    37. Tkachenko, Serhiy

    4. Tymoshchuk, Anatoliy

    10. Vukic, Zvonimir

    Forwards

    17. Aghahowa, Julius

    25. Brandao

    20. Byelik, Oleksiy

    29. Marica, Ciprian

    15. Okoduwa, Emmanuel Osei

I remember being a fan of Matuzalem at Brescia, surprised a big Italian team didn't snap him up. How old is he?

25 at the moment. So he has plenty of time left. I think he (and Brescia) went for the money to be honest. I seem to remember there was strong interest from Roma and Inter at the time that didn't amount to any sort of bid.

Here are (most) the goals from the Ukranian Cup game recently against Yavir Krasnopillya.

I couldn't get a decent video of Vukic's first goal, nor could I get a decent video of Yavir's only goal of the game.

0-2 to Shakhtar - Okoduwa with the goal
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLa8BWjLWbU

0-3 to Shakhtar - Jadson with a nice freekick
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pb3tfQHGUeI

0-4 to Shakhtar - Okoduwa gets his 2nd of the game.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuGb_6L7_7Y

0-5 to Shakhtar - the substitute Brandao gets in on the act.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgO7w7L3Uj4

1-6 to Shakhtar - Vukic who opened the scoring now closes it with a great freekick, Shakhtar's second of the game.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7UquuA38bSw

Shakhtar put out a weakened team against poor opposition. No Matuzalem, Tymoschuk, Srna, Chygrynsky or Marica in the squad.

Brandao and Fernandinho have to settle for a place on the bench.

Igor Duljaj was the surprise goalscorer for Shakhtar in a decent draw away to Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk.

Dnipro, historically the Ukraine's 3rd team, are currently lying in 6th place, though just 2 points behind 3rd place Arsenal Kyiv. They took the lead on the 15th minute but Duljaj scored just his second league goal for Shakhtar to get a decent away draw.

Dynamo Kyiv also drew at the weekend to ensure that Shakhtar stay top thanks to goal difference.

    1 FC Shakhtar Donetsk 8 20

    2 Dynamo Kyiv 8 20

    3 Arsenal Kyiv 8 14

    4 Metalist Kharkiv 8 12

    5 Karpaty Lviv 8 12

    Here is Duljaj's goal:

The chance must be taken tomorrow. Olympiakos haven't won away from home in 10 years of the Champions League. Shakhtar have to put Saturday's draw behind them and get a result if there is to be any chance of next round qualification.

2-1 to Shakhtar with Elano and Brandao getting the goals.

Away game against Arsenal tonight, I wonder if Okoduwa will start against his old club.

The title race is looking good so far. Kiev are currently 3 points ahead after yesterday, having played a game more. They've scored 26 goals and conceeded 7.

Shakhtar have already scored 26 goals in just the 10 games, but also conceeded only 3.

Hopefully a win is a formality. Arsenal may be 5th in the league, but they're already 11 points behind. A win tonight pretty much rules out any miracle come-back from one of the other teams. Metalist Khariv are already 9 points behind and lost to Shakhtar the other week, so it appears to be another 2 horse race.

with the exception of Elano, who played very well for Santos, all the Brazilians listed in italic are virtually unknown in Brazil because they went to Europe too early. I've never seen them play.

I would have thought that Matuzalem would be well thought of - he did quite well in Serie A with Brescia. Fernandinho played in the same U-20 team as Dani Alves, infact, he scored the winning goal in the final. I think he played in the Libertadores aswell.

Jadson probably moved too soon though, you're right. He was in the same Atletico Paranaense side as Fernandinho though I think.

well, thinking twice i remember Jadson. yes, he played for Atlético Paranaense.

the problem with football here is that it became an under-23 league or over-33. it's full of too young or too old players.

unfortunatelly I have no time now to watch more European leagues. i'm only watching CL and the Brazilian league this year.

I get varying degrees of luck with http://www.ukrainatv.com - it doesn't work on my PC, but seems to on my mates. The quality of the downloads has varied thusfar though, but I've only really used it a couple of times this season.

You can download every goal off the Shakhtar website - http://shakhtar.com/homeen.html

You also get a fair few interviews, though the translation isn't always the best.

I'm not sure if they're sponsored by one, but it wouldn't surprise me. I think there was alot of mining done around the donetsk region - one of the old club badges used to have a hammer and pickaxe (I think) on it.

I don't be profess to be some kind of expect on them, I just thought that this thread would be a decent way of keeping up with what's going on with the Ukranian league. At least the title race.
