Lyon have been the biggest French team for what 6 seasons now. But they've been replaced by Bordeaux as the best team. But this season i've been following them a bit(due to betting) They've looked pretty terrible and a few good results(not performances) aside v Pool in the CL they have been poor all seasons pretty much everywhere.

As things stand they look like missing out on the CL next season. And with other teams getting cash and Lyon looking like needing a player overhaul i think it could be awhile before Lyon are back to being a knockout phase team. Their decline has come pretty quickly in the last two seasons.

    1 Bordeaux 23 8 2 1 20 4 7 1 4 18 14 20 48
    2 Montpellier 23 8 1 2 14 6 6 2 4 18 19 7 45
    3 Lille 23 8 3 1 25 8 4 2 5 18 15 20 41
    4 Lyon 23 6 2 3 18 14 5 5 2 20 14 10 40
    5 Marseille 22 6 2 2 17 9 5 4 3 21 16 13 39
    6 Monaco 23 8 2 2 19 9 4 1 6 11 18 3 39
    7 Auxerre 23 7 2 3 15 11 4 4 3 6 9 1 39
    8 Rennes 23 8 2 2 21 9 2 5 4 12 12 12 37
    9 Lorient 23 5 4 2 23 14 5 1 6 13 12 10 35

I fancy Marseille to finish above them as well as the top two currently.

I was talking to a guy who bet on Lyon to win the league at 7/1 a few weeks ago - Apparently they have a very easy fixture list for the second half of the season.

I havent followed them at all in Ligue 1 but they were tactically sound in the CL. Its not as if they no longer have talented players. They still have the best squad in France, but Bordeaux's team is gelled together beautifully.

Puel looked a good coach in the CL, maybe the constant changes each season has caught up with them? On the other hand, sometimes seasons like this just happen for teams.

French football is very unpredictable - Grenoble won 5-0 against Auxerre this weekend!

On paper they still have the best squad/depth. Perhaps need a CB or two, but I think it's upfront that they have been struggling recently, which is odd given the players they have at disposal.

I don't think it's the end of an era for them, but rather just patchy form. I think the other sides have upped their game though, which is obviously only good for the league.

With the departure of Benzema and icon Juninho they seem to be transitioning a bit. I don't think they will win, but they can easily qualify for Champions League football if they sort themselves out. The point difference is not that crazy, so there is no reason to freak out and make statements like this.

Things are not totally lost though. They have Pjanic, who is easily one of the most talented players I have seen in a while. They also managed to pick up Lisandro, who has fit in well. They have been very inconsistent this season, but this is when they fell apart last season as well, so im not totally shocked by their current form.

Anyway, I'm happy that Lyon and Marseille are shitting all over pitches this season. It's nice of Lille and Montpellier to come so far. From promotion to title race contender, I couldn't care less how bad Lyon do. There are more exciting things happening in France! bounce

Bordeaux has taken the first pot in France, there's no doubt about that. Montpellier, Lyon, Marseille and Lille will battle hard til the last day for the other two spots. Bordeaux should qualify for the next round of the champions league, whereas Lyon wont and Marseille should as well qualify for the next round of the europa cup so we will only have the ligue to play. Montpellier have been the surprise package this year. They are playing tremendously well. Hope Bordeaux, Marseille and Lyon do get the first 3 places so they can experience again C.L games.
As for Lyon we are had a weird and inconsistant year. We started amazingly then we fell appart. I think we are in transition because lots of players left and lots of them arrived (Gomis, Lisandro, Bastos, Lovrem). I do think we are more balanced than last year though with a better bench but we need a better coach to be competitive again in the C.L.

No, its no good - I'm still seeing a table showing them 4 points of a CL spot with 9 games to play.

Isnt it just top 3 in france? so potential 5 should Marseille win their game in hand. Not exactly well placed when you cant string a run of wins together.

    No Montpellier is fourth.

    The final table is:

    1-Marseille
    2-Lyon
    3-Auxerre
    4-Lille
    5-Montpellier
    6-Bordeaux

C.L Marseille and Lyon, C.L qualifying round
Europa League: Lille, Montpellier and P.S.G
Bordeaux will not play europe next year. I can see all the best players leave now (Gourcuff, Diara, etc)
