Diego's latest gaffe Empty Diego's latest gaffe

Post by Barrilete Mon Feb 08, 2010 9:39 pm

just wanted to let you all know of his latest faux pas...
for this Wednesday's friendly against Jamaica(a match that only the AFA's treasury will find useful) Diego, during a press conference, called 18 players, all from the Argentine first division.

40 mins after that, he re-called everyone and announced that due to the well known fact that 4 out of those 18 players had a Copa Libertadores engagement on Thursday with Estudiantes de La Plata(something that's been known for months), he would call 4 other player in replacement.

Thus reaching a new record of 102 players who have been called for the senior national team during his time as coach.

despicable bastard...he's probably more concentrated on scoring coke than just finding out what players can actually play his stupid friendly

Oh, and if this wasn't enough, he failed to realize that of those last 4 one of them had had surgery a week before and won't be able to play until march....

Diego nicely poised to shock EVERYONE at the World Cup by playing the dumbass card in the build up. Argentina with a very strong showing at the WC...you already heard that from me a while back. <Ale>

Puro is right, Maradonna has played this perfectly, like a hustler in a casino he stumbles in and everyone assumes he's drunk, he acts like he doesn't know what he's doing, he doesn't know the rules and so people underestimate him, then BAM he's in the final.

It's hard to see them not getting out of that group, the players on the pitch would have to actively sabotage matches for them to be beaten by Greece, Nigeria and Korea.

Didn't the previous manager Basile go seven games without a win. Maradona actually has a better record than him. So who would you recommend replacing him as your alternative managerial options don't seem that great.

Without thet last minute goal v Peru they were heading out. The way it turned out they managed to get enough from that to do reasonably well v Uruguay. No team with some great and experienced players will be a walkover at such a high stage in a competition but if people don't underestimate them then they wont get very far.

It's not impossible for Argentina to have a good World Cup, but the players would have to ignore Maradona and figure out tactics by themselves, like the Frogs did with that twat Domenech at the last WC.

Domenech actually fielded a good side though.

Problem with Maradona is that he is picking the wrong players.

    Dunga trys to trump him

Midfielders: Gilberto Silva (Panathinaikos), Josue (Wolfsburg), Felipe Melo (Juventus), Lucas (Liverpool), Kaka (Real Madrid), Ramires (Benfica), Elano (Galatasaray), Julio Baptista (Roma), Kleberson (Flamengo).

    Shocked

Or is that really all he has to pick from ?

Basile was going nowhere towards the end but initally he was doing decent enough allthough his team at the Copa America was rather overrated on here and just in general. If I remember correct some of the problems really showed up when Riquelme retired. Basile was a fan of the Menotti school (Argentina coach in 78) but his team was never really fluent. Pekerman's team was much more balanced.

Bianchi wouldn't be a bad try. If Chile does well at the World Cup I think they should consider rehiring Marcelo Bielsa.

Im guesing you haven't follow Dunga too close in the last couple of years. Very Happy

It isn't all he has to pick from but has always been firm in his ideas. Allthough I would he has improved nowadays if you can believe that. His Copa America team was incredibly sad to look at on the pitch but also just on paper.

Argentina are perennial favourites for the WC and always fuck it up. Maybe now no c**t gives them a chance they will put it all together, stop choking and actually win the thing.

Id would be amusing if after all this talk of Palmero, Caniggia, Ayala etc all going to the WC that Diego did actually turn around and pick his best squad. However, that might just be wishful thinking on my part.

    Barrilete,
What is the general consensus on the streets of Buenos Aries these days? God or Idiot? Or a little bit of both?

Perhaps this is all a blessing in disguise, he might not pick the right team. But all the media attention will be on him during the WC, leaving the likes of Messi alone to shine.

International football is boring as hell these days, Maradonna has more charisma then all the other coaches + players combined, him at the WC is gonna be awesome! Can't wait for his press conferences.

    lol!

Now he is coming out and calling Valdano an enemy of the national team for getting rid of Heinze and putting Gago in the bench! Right - it has nothing to do that Heinze is utter sh!t and Gago can't pass the ball. Then he says Valdano would do the same to el Pipita except he scores too many goals. He's joking right? When did Maradona become such a fan of Higuain? Oh wow, only after Higuain saved his ass scoring goals in the last couple WCQ matches after he refused to call him for over two years to the national team. Doh

Heard he also said, Samuel will be going to the WC in that interview, is this true?.

Taking just one proper defender will do wonders for argentina's chances.

If he selects the right players then, argentina could in fact do a france and reach the final.

    Pastore is a must.
