We'll have to keep a cricket thread going for the ICC trophy and the Ashes.

I'll be doing a Ryder cup thread as well, so the timing wasn't best but it can all go in the off topic board.

Re: Changes to the board
chaps, I fear you don't understand the reasoning behind the changes I proposed
if cosmetic changes (ie getting rid of the Sports Board...) are all we get, we might as well change nothing on here
we have to find a way to generate more lively/quicker debates
on the old 606, you could have 100 replieson a thread within 15-30 minutes
nowadays , it feels like everybody is busy posting on his favourite 5 threads (mostly club related)
personally, I start finding this place increasingly non-stimulating
there are two fundamental problems
a) too many sections
b) too many subject rather than topic threads
even if you go to "View All" many of the headlines are ManU/Liverpool/Eredivisie... Thread
they are not specific enough to lure me into them
obviously a ManU/Liverpool/Eredivisie/Bremen...fan will beg to differ
this board is no longer a meeting place for football ideas/chat/banter, it's like a house with 20 rooms each one hosting a mini party
which is why we so URGENTLY need guys like Arnaud/Pirlo/Puro... who start SPECIFIC TOPIC RELATED THREADs
maybe I am wrong, but a bit of nip-tuck is not the answer

Re: Changes to the board
But if we were to stop the club threads then all it would lead to is 5/6 Man Utd and Liverpool related threads being started up each day.
The match threads still stimulate lively debates but other thread would on 606 would never generate 100 replies in 20 minutes as you claim.
The Mascherano/Tevez signing thread got about 200 posts in an hour though

Quality not quantity Otto. If you want hundreds of badly thought-out and spelt replies, go to 606.

Thats a cruel sig.
I can't see how we could persuade people to banish the club threads.

Re: Changes to the board
there will be many on here who LIKE those subject/club threads and are not interested in furious/heated/hot debates at all
they would also prefer living in Leeds/Bonn/Bordeaux than in New York
depends on what you prefer
I'd go for New York , or the old 606 , any time
maybe I am one of the few on here
the Tevez/Mascherano thread was an exception
besides, it was an EPL debate really
in the olden days we had 100+ within 15 minutes for EUROPEAN DEBATES
there was simply more heat
I have not really seen anybody on here trying to discuss this seriously so far; maybe there is no demand
no harm done; it's just that I am losing interest somewhat

Maybe you should get some of your German pals to join otto?
We're trying but its hard, the debate is a hell of a lot better on here though than on some boards I know that have 3000+ members

There were heated 'debates' every day on Lampard vs Gerrard... is that what you want?
Strongly held opinions are not necessarily right. I think that the quality of debate is much better on here than old 606 and I greatly prefer it.

Re: Changes to the board
I don't really care either way, whatever changes are made I'll stick to my View New Posts and be just fine. Also I don't mind if I lose mod privileges because of off-topic being combined. Not meaning to sound apathetic or anything, just saying I'm ok with whatever changes are made, as long as the board keeps functioning and Barcelona keep winning.

Otto I know you like an audience....... Thats fine but on 606 many questions never really got answered in debates. People threw out their opinions and often never really considered other folks posts, and would rather polish over there questions with boring overhyped responses..

@brian
this has nothing to do with me wanting an audience at all
usually, I come on here , check out what's cooking and then either join in if something smells nice or start something myself if my tastebuds are not tickled
this board is getting a tad quiet for my liking and nowadays there is little on here that makes me wonder when dinner is ready
funny thing is , ALL the top posters (funny/edgy) are still here. We have lost a few "respected posters" , but frankly, the loss was not very substantial
the BIG BOYS are still popping in and out but rarely "getting into trouble"
you yourself have become rather withdrawn as well
the topics are still lying on the pavement, only nobody picks them up and runs with them
there are many reasons: post-World Cup depression; football overload; general agreement on previously HOT topics (English footballers are overrated and AVERAGE...)
personally I think the structure of this place kills HOT DEBATES
since nobody publicly seems to agree with me, I might be alone with this analysis
I can only say that I am quickly drifting off this board because there is more action/controversy on most sports websites

Re: Changes to the board
I agree with Otto. It seems there is too much "discussion" focused in the team threads where more commenting is done than discussing. I also see less people on here all the time.
I do believe Otto is even dragged into the general malaise, and losing his edge. Maybe it typifies his general discontent with the current state of the board.
I also think we should ban certain topics that seem to create an atmosphere on the board (racist, religious, political issues).

many BIG BOYS are still popping in , taking a look and dashing off again; everybody has his own reason, but I suspect they might share my feeling that there is no HEAT
as I said, some topics are exhausted; "AVERAGE English players OVERHYPED": even guys like COTR who genuinely thought that virtually no German player would have walked into the English national team now realise that the Lions would not catch a lamb if it was TIED to a tree; hence, all the banter is gone
it's a natural development, and there is nothing wrong with it; problem is , that when the HOT TOPICS disappear, posters on here nowadays simply withdraw into their CLUB THREADS; + all those sections dilute the discussion stream; there is no longer a bottle-neck that brings everybody together
toon h wrote: I do believe Otto is even dragged into the general malaise, and losing his edge. Maybe it typifies his general discontent with the current state of the board.
I am quickly losing interest , like everybody else (Rosy/Isar/Ricardo/COTR/every1/brian...) and adjust accordingly
toon h wrote: I also think we should ban certain topics that seem to create an atmosphere on the board (racist, religious, political issues).
disagree here completely: we need to have controversial stuff we can get our teeth into; please don't flatten the bumpy road
I could never understand either why certain posters on here wage/d a campaign against Puro/Arnaud/Deisler/Mel.....
they make the place fun

Re: Changes to the board
I just think the place has become a bit premiership based for some.
The board has taken a slight hit since the schools started but I think we were spoilt with the numbers around the World cup (constant games). We were never going to keep those numbers up unless we went on a mad advertising spree.

Re: Changes to the board
I would like to see ALL the football threads (European, International, Serie A, La Liga and Premiership) merged into one, just so that we get more exposure from different posters and different nationalities...
Personally I mostrly post in the La Liga thread and it is basically a forum of 10 posters, unless when one of the big teams mess up. I would like to draw more people into the discussion, by exposing them to all the threads..

Thats how it originally was, but so many people complained about it we had to split it.

I don't get Otto's point at all here...
For example:
But he follows up with...
That's because they keep on posting the same old topics that there is now a general agreement on.
it's like watching an autistic kid at a spelling bee... it gets boring 4-5 words in.

It is just a shame that so many people are stuck on their respective boards (myself included) out of habit, especially since the boards are often polarised (i.e. pro RM, pro Barca). We could all do with a breath of fresh air.
