Phew! Hope it is just a month. That won't be too bad then. He'll get a few EPL games under his belt before meeting up for the WC.

As far as our WC chances go, getting injured and getting taken out of the hectic part of the run in is probably the best thing that could of happened. If he'd continued playing a full schedele he'd be on his way to a Villa style burn out come the knock out stages of the World Cup.

He's out for 10 days. He'll miss both the Chelsea and Bayern game but back for the rest of the run in. Macheda is fit just in time

Could be good for Arsenal...Man. Utd. without Rooney and Chelsea with their poor away form may cancel out into a draw.

The biggest week of the season for United and they have to do it without Rooney. Berbatov simply has to step up to the plate.

Inferioity complex much?
I'd rather he missed all United's games and England won the world cup but then i don't support a smalltime team aspiring to be everything they claim to hate.

Man City fans do not deserve any success with that loser mentality the championship division would suit them much better.

I agree with the Goat. I'm not really assed about Rooney and England. England wont win the World Cup with our without him so it doesn't really have much impact. It's a suitable injury to please United haters and England lovers anyway.

I support them but I don't have the passion for them as I do for Liverpool. It just pisses me off that the whole nation has a heart attack if Rooney goes down. That sums up why England wont win the World Cup. If Torres goes down do the whole of Spain cry? No because they have Villa, Fabregas, Iniesta, Silva, Alonso etc.

You're there for the ride though. Its not always about winning the whole darn thing. Personally, I think getting to the semis would be a good achievement.
Spain's hardly a great example - their team is phenomenal. Brazil would be similar to us if they lost Kaka though, as would Argentina if they lost Messi.

It is about winning it though. What's the point of being happy with a semi-final? You have to wait another 4 years to have hope of winning it again. Anything less than a World Cup win for England should be looked upon as a failure.
Argentina have some fantastic players besides Messi so I don't agree. Aguero, Tevez, Higuain to name a few.

Re: Rooney ouf for a month
For me football isn't always about winning. Its about supporting the team and feeling that your team has given its best whatever the outcome.
Otherwise what be the point of following football for 95% of the world's countries? Or for 80% of the Premier League teams?
I watch the sport to be entertained at the end of the day - to watch a great game of football and be able to discuss it at length afterwards - and also to stirr the imagination - either through a moment of brilliance that actually happens or through a 'what might have been' scenario.
Rooney is the type of player that CAN create those magic moment. Its for players like him that I love football.

Re: Rooney ouf for a month
The world cup is the best thing about football FFS. To not embrace it due to a petty dislike of a certain player or wish not to win it for a similar reason is nonsense. The premiership means a lot but if not winning it one year for whatever reason helps win a world cup then fucking awesome.
The way the whole country stops for a game and it's all anyone talks about is something club football can never replicate.

I agree, I think the World Cup is fantastic but I don't enjoy watching England. The fans boo their own players and I don't think we play particulary entertaining football. If Liverpool play boring football I'll still cheer them on because they're Liverpool and they're my club. With England I don't feel that.

Re: Rooney ouf for a month
Well I pity you if that's the case. I think you've probably suffered from being born at the wrong time - you've grown to love football during a period in which England haven't been that great and some of the players have been complete wankers whereas my generation were breast fed on the likes of Lineker, Gascoigne, Waddle, Pearce, Shilton and Platt. Proper footballers. Likeable personas and entertaining to boot.
I'm beginning to see the makings of something great under Capello though. Were you not entertained by our qualification campaign? I know its sometimes a formality but I thought there were signs on progress there and I think that with the likes of Rooney in the team, we can go relatively far this summer, and hopefully provide some entertainment to boot.

Look even if Rooney does not shine it is not about him. The media the fans like to get behind something or someone. Rooney holds a light inside those fans. Hoping that winning is possible they are real fans that have a positive belief and even if they get let down the're big enough to stand behind someone or some team and accept the consequences . If your a club fan great but your a facking loser and your club will be also no wonder Liverpool have sucked in recent history, misery breeds discontent so suck it up and get behind the three lions.

Thought you were a Yank, Brian.
Anyway...
I agree fully with Tweeds original response to Luis.
I can tell you quite a lot of people here in Ireland that I know want England to well and/or win the World Cup. I'm likewise. After Spain, I hope England do win it(or least knock out France ). But a lot of typical Ingurland fans and more so the media do my head in.
During WC 02, Ireland was in lock down The atmosphere for those weeks was something else, great time to be in Ireland. Same with WC 94. Fucking France

lineker, Gascoigne, Waddle, what great players they were.... but you were rather young at that time. Ian wright was great as well, not too much for England but for Arsenal especially. That's when I started watching Arsenal games. The WC is la creme de la creme regards to football. It's the period fo time when great players become legends (Ronaldo, Zidane, etc).
After France, I'll be backing England for sure.. France won't go far anyway.
