Not saying they are the most succesfull team ever. But from 2005 till now it has been one hell of a dynasty that will be up with the best teams of all time I believe. And there is still some good years in them left.

Barcelona
Odds are pretty big that they will win this year's CL again. And likely La liga too, thus making it three in five years time or so. I don't really like the club and what it stands for but the football they play is out of this world. And look at the amount of youth players they have. Perfect example how a club should be run.

Re: Barcelona
I make Real Madrid favourites for La Liga.
And IMO.
4 prem titles in a row > winning 2 la liga's in 5 years...where their main challengers cant even get into the last 8 of the cl in 5 attempts.
And then maybe 3 cl finals in a row. So this poll is way to early with that possibility.

Best footballing, not most succesful . In the history of the CL Man U is the most succesfull imo, most quarterfinals from all clubs.

Well in that case im not sure. Sometimes barca are boring because they make 726748372 passes but don't actually get anywhere. They definitely keep the ball the best. I thought Real madrid's team with figo zidane and co just before becks played the best football i seen.

Re: Barcelona
I think this is premature. If they win the CL back t back (and la liga) then they'll certainly be the best of my lifetime.
There might well have been some more or as dominant teams in the past, but with the way football operates nowadays and the global transfer marketplace, I think you could argue that this could be the greatest assemblement of players there has been.
Liverpool in the early 80s were a damn fine team though

I think you could probably make arguements for Liverpool of early 80s, Milan of the late 80s early 90s, Ajax of the mid 90s, Real Madrid of the late 90s early 00s along with the current Barcelona and Manchester Utd sides. And those are just the teams since most of us have been alive.

Re: Barcelona
making arguments about absolutes - "the" best team - is silly.
as mentioned, just before this Barca there was a great Milan team, which in around 03-05 played on similar levels, even if scoring less on average, having no "cantera" dimension, and ultimately lasting less at top level.
there is a family of great teams anyway, and I think this barca is part of it. I'd say it's similar to Sacchi's Milan, with less tactical novelty but with a similar passion for football with a vision.
Lippi's Juve is more similar to this late Ferguson Man Utd, competent and modern but less inspiring - even if that Juve had something more than this Man Utd. I'd put Capello's Milan in there also, more cynical but with so much quality and legendary players.
Mid '90 Ajax was also a superb team.

Juve i think had a similar run from 96-99, so not exactly unrivalled in the modern day.

Still that's 14 years ago since they reached their first final. Kinda a long time the whole format was different.

Bayern were impressive those 3 years for sure.
But that simply matches the last 3 years for manu...if this season it adds a bit special 3 finals in a row. It may not happen so it's pointless talking about it.

Well Milan from the mid 00s or Real from the late 90s/early 00s also have similarly impressive records.

Re: Barcelona
There's a legitimate argument here for Barcelona that , whilst being rather subjective, sets them apart from most other sides.
That is, they have managed to become so successful with a team comprising of more players coming through their academy then the likes of Milan in the 90s, Madrid in the 00's and United in the late 00's can ever boast about. Ajax's 1995 and United's 1999 team are the closest side to this Barca team in terms of producing homegrown players. None of the Italian sides from the 90's or the 00's (Juventus, Milan) can claim this, as both were huge spenders on overseas talent during those periods. Bayern's side had plenty of Germans, but these were mostly produced at other clubs and then cherry picked by Bayern, a technique that has become a habit for them.
And of course, the subjective aspect is that for many people Barca's football is aesthetically superior to anything that has gone before it. The only other side I have in my time come close in terms of "pure" football was Madrid's side in the early 00's - never forget them taking Manchester United apart in the Bernabeu in 2003 with an almost flawless first half performance. Zinedine Zidane managed a 100% passing accuracy statistic for that 45 minutes.
Another though: Juve, Bayern, Milan and United all relied on penalty kicks to win them the final in recent years. Barcelona have rarely looked like losing the 2 recent finals, and I'd be very surprised if they didn't walk the final this season too.
If Barcelona win it again this season, they'll certainly be up there as one of the greatest sides ever. In my opinion, certainly the greatest in my lifetime

Typical Andy Townsend post.
None of the Italian sides can claim that? That certainly applies to Juve. However, not sure about Milan. They don't quite match the Barca of now or the Ajax of the mid 90s but they did have Maldini, Costacurta, Ambrosini and Oddo and always had a fair few Italians in their side.
I think you have a short memory if you Barca's football is aesthetically superior to anything that has gone before it. Like you said, the Real Madrid side of the early 2000s were great. It also wasn't too long ago that Ancelotti's Milan were ripping apart the likes of Man Utd, Bayern and Deportivo playing champagne football. Barca's football is great but some perspective is needed.
Barca didn't need penalties, but they were pushed fairly hard in 2006. They hardly cruised to the final either, in both cases.

Re: Barcelona
The Barca victory is very much related to Ajax as well. As a club we have influenced them, that much is evident. They are just the most recent example in what has been working for sides for decades. Focusing on youth development instead of going out and spending tons, and managing to bring in the right people to continue on a successful path. I think it's brilliant what Barca have been able to do. They are showing that this recipe for success is not totally dead, and hopefully will continue with this tradition in the next decade to come.
