then we will find the best club in the more modern days of football history

4 points for an CL win, 2 points for runners up, 1 point for semi final

    Bayern:

    winner: 2001
    runners-up: 1999, 1987, 1982
    semifinal: 1981, 1990, 2010, 1991, 1995, 2000

    16 points for bayern

i think milan will win, but bayern was not bad, in 30 years of CL they made it 10 times into a semifinal, the last 9 years were highly disappointing for bayern, but the future looks bright

How many pts for the champion that didn't win the game, and required PK's? For instance, Liverpool '83-'84 season, Steaua '85-'86, PSV '87-'88...do they still get 2pts each? or 3pts for the PK winner? A full 4pts hasn't been earned in my opinion, but what do I know.

    Villa have 4 points cheers

Milan would win, then probably Juve, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona..(not sure on order)

24 different teams have made the final since 1980, quite a diverse time..

I tell you this much: The 50's was owned by Spain with Real Madrid 4 titles. The 60's was Italia's with 4 wins. The 70's was a good struggle among Holland, England, and Germany. Holland edging it with four winners.

The 80's it was close between Italia and England with three wins each. However, Italia had more final showings overall, and not only that, but they won the head to head final with Juve beating Liverpool. The Reds tied Roma in the other final. So 80's to Italia.

The 90's it was for Italia no doubt about it.

The 00's it should've been England's turn (going by precedent), but Liverpool needed PK's to beat Milan. The Mancs beat Chelsea through PK's. It should've been England's golden decade in Europe, but Spain took the decade without a doubt with 4 winners (maybe 5 if Barcelona win again).

So, the 00's should've been England's, but they lost it to Spain, and now the 10's should be Spain's as well judging by how the tide's turned in their favor further stretching their lead of European titles.

You gotta consider early 80s as separate from late 80s as Liverpool got England banned from Europe for 5 yrs. If that hadn't happened, it's not ridiculous to suggest England would've won a couple more, after winning 7 of the last 9

    I'd describe it:

    50s Spain
    60s Italy/Portugal
    Early 70s Netherlands
    Mid 70s Germany
    Late 70s-Early 80s England
    Mid 80s-Mid 90s Italy
    Late 90s-Early 00s Spain
    Late 00s England
    10s....?

It's quite amazing to think now that Spain did not win once between 1966 and 1992.

I stand corrected. Got confused adding up # of titles and seasons so quickly.

Yes, 90's it's definitely Italia with 3 winners and 5 losing finalists to Spain's 2 winners and a losing finalist.

By the way, I was going by decades, you know when the decade begins with number 0 and ends with number 9. None of that breaking it down bullshite to accomodate your ass hole.

The winner we'll have soon in a few weeks will be the first winner for the 10's, and most likely Spain to once again kick-off a decade with a winner.

The bit in bold confuses me Bernd. You said England had 4 different clubs in the CL, do you mean 4 different clubs in the final?

FYI a decade lasts 10 years, not 9, and it was 5 times they had a finalist (not 6). Spain also had one of it's clubs in the final 5 times. So pretty even there, but if we went on semi finalists, i think the EPL would probably win.

The coefficient points also take the UEFA cup into account, so you'd have to adjust for that. I don't think Spain is that lacking in depth during the 00's. Obviously you have Real and Barca, but Valencia reached the 2 finals and Deportivo were also consistantly reaching the latter stages. Villareal also reached the semis once.

Spain marginallu wins in my opinion, however I'm merely formulating an argument of sorts as to why it's a lot closer than Puro has given credit for.

After researching the data, it is without doubt, that Spain has won the most trophies, and Italia has sent the most finalists. Thus clearly Spain is #1 and Italia #2.

    England: 11 winners, 6 runners up = 17

    Germany 6 winners, 7 runners up = 13

    Spain 12 winners, 9 runners up = 21

So, England is no more "right there" with Germany appearances as Spain is "right there" with English appearances. And England had 5 years of no European competition to boot.

This is a beautiful example of what we were talking about a few weeks back. One bad season in europe and English football is the shower-bitch again for Johnny Foreigner, people should imagine this happening for years(as it did) before they accuse the English of being "arrogant" again. <Ale>
