i think it will be a very close tie

manutd is clearly another league to inter, leonardo just fucked up there defensive philosophy

schalke has a pretty solid defence, and an hardworking and hardrunning team, and they are very clinical ahead of the goal

i think schalke has some class material, maybe some underestimated them because of the bundesliga situation, in normal circumstances they would fight for the cl places and the title, but at the start of the season this was a complete new team

    neuer - worldclass
uchida, matip, höwedes - world class defensive talents
raul, metzelder, kluge - proven veterans
farfan, jurado - very good players, need more seasons for WC status
edu, sarpei - they do there job fine, can be replaced by huntellar, gravanovic, charisteas, schmitz, escudero
baumjohann - a big question, hes got much talent, but need to continue the performance of the last matches to convince me that he can become a big player

    --------neuer

    uchida-höwedes-metzelder (matip)-sarpei(schmitz)

    ----kluge-jurado

    farfan---------baumjohann

    ---raul--edu (gravonovic,huntellar)

this should be the line up against manu

I can't believe that nobody is saying that Farfán and Schalke are easy outs, and that the Mancs should just skip the semifinal and head straight to Wembley. Are the same people who wrote Schalke off when they played Inter gonna say something about this semifinal tie now? What a monumental cock up EVEN THOUGH I wasted my time here WARNING about Farfán destroying Valencia and the matchup problems Inter were gonna have. lol! lol! lol!

Now it's the Mancs's turn. Hmm Farfán against Evra... lol! lol! lol!

Their best result was achieved with just 3 German's - 2 out of 10 outfield players.

They have scored 11 goals in KO stages - just 1 goal and 1 assist came from Germans Basketball

Can you get more desperate? Seriously...

Wonder why Pierre didn't mention the fact (actual fact in that case, and not just bitter nonsense) that Inter won the CL last season with basically no Italian in their first XI.

Whatever though, it's good to see a German team being solid defensively for a change, been a while. Especially positive as Germans are the defensive backbone of the team.

There is a difference between winning it and getting to a semi.

Is conceding 5 in 4 ko games considered "solid" by German standards ?

There is a difference between conceding two while scoring five yourself, and conceding two or more goals on a regular basis, which is not the case with Schalke. That Inter match was actually the only match in which Schalke conceded more than once in this CL season.

Schalke's record in the CL this season: 7 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss, 21:8 goals. The only game they lost was away to Lyon in the group stages, conceding once, the very first match of their CL campaign.

Considering their budget and teams they were up against, that's a very good defensive record indeed.

P.S.: There is no difference between winning it and getting to the semis if your 'point' is the foreign players in the respective squads. There's only a difference if you're a hypocrite, but that's no surprise to anyone.

    advantage Schalke

    Manu has to play

    schalke away
    arsenal away
    schalke at home
    chelsea home

they have to concentre on those matches, while Schalke can only concentrate on manu

i think manu is mental a very strong side, but the lack of quality bench will hurt them this year, they also dont have the class to dominate teams, but have some kind of killer instict

    There's also this:

This was [Hernandez's] 19th goal of the season, as many as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer netted in his first campaign in a Manchester United shirt – in 1996-97. Then, Manchester United won a disjointed Premier League with a low points total and were beaten by German opposition in a European Cup semi-final.

Schalke is not Leverkusen or Bayern, these "never beat German teams" nonsense needs to stop. As if that matters, as if Schalke's style could be compared to Leverkusen's or Bayern's, as if "German football" is homogenous.

Looking forward to these matches, I'm curious what approach Rangnick will choose. United are clear favourites, but I can see Schalke knocking them out.

WOW! Metzelder said that they don't fear the Mancs at all. I LOVE that attitude!!!

Just grab a fucking bat and crush their fucking skulls, you you Neuer, Cristoph, Howedes, Uchida, Jurado, Edu, Raúl, Farfán! cheers

Be careful though, German mes amis! The pussy Mancs will park the bus, and will parasite (as per usual) to catch something on the break, wait for a Schalke mistake, and pick up the scraps. Them Mancs play like such fucking MINNOWS! lol!

That's what make the Mancs dangerous, they won't beat themselves. You have an ace under the sleeves -my main man Farfán- since it appears SlurAlex didn't see him in person when he went to spy on Schalke. La Foquita on that Mancs's left side will be where the war will be won or lost, and Jurado is another important player on the other side IN CASE SlurAlex KNOWS all about Farfán and keeps THREE defenders on him at all times. Jurado becomes very important then.

After the initial Mancs joy of having to face Schalke, I notice a bit of uncertainty coming from the Mancs's camp. Ooooooh, go get'em Schalke! KILL THEM!

Uchida was one of Schalke's best players last week when they played against us (= Werder Bremen). He made a lot of excellent runs and was actually quite aggressive while defending, similar to the matches against Inter. The battle between him and his countryman Nagatomo was one of the more interesting aspects of the second leg.

It probably helps that Schalke defend well as a team, and having Farfan in front of him in particular. Farfan doesn't just attack and create, he helps out in the defence a lot, too. Schalke's right side is pretty strong.

Not trying to be mean or anything, I'm really not, but if you understand both languages, take a look at how the opponent is analysed by major sports websites in the respective countries of each club.
