Collecting more than 18 points so far is an amazing achievement. In the last five years, only Spain managed to collect more points in the 06/07 campaign, and there are still 2 German teams left in the competition. I don't think this is just temporary either. While the Bundesliga may not perform this outstandingly well in the coming years, I do expect them to remain strong. The foundation of this success are the important reforms on the youth level - Germany is producing a lot of talented players these days, which improve the league and increase the level of competition. The Bundesliga has gotten a lot stronger and competitive in the last few years, even if many either fail or simply refuse to acknowledge this.

Another interesting fact is that this year, all of the five big European leagues performed well, even Holland and Portugal did relatively well, while the Eastern Europeans and other small leagues were rather disappointing. Knowing that Platini promised to help the smaller leagues, it doesn't really look like they are going to catch up with the traditional powerhouses anytime soon.

I've always been a fan of Olic, there's a certain britishness about him. He's like a Rooney-lite.

Much like Rooney, his criticisms in the past have rvolved around his golascoring record and he's shut up a few recently with his vital goals in the CL.

Rooney indeed had a poor game at Bayern there is no doubt. He only scored the once which is unusual for him this season.

Having played almost every game of United's campaign, he was due a rest.

Thankfully, his injury at the end of the match will make him fresh for the World Cup.

Olic is a decent player. Is he better than Rooney? No

Does my Eastern European heritage make any difference to this quite obvious state of affairs? No.

Being blinded by your nationality is not something to cheer about old peach - it's SO last century.
