which one(s) do you think will be?

Euro teams do not win WCs outside Europe.

Only Euro and S American teams win WCs.

Big 4 + hosts theory (when Uruguay won in 1950 they were big).

England to reach the semis for the first time outside Europe.

Euro teams do not win WCs outside Europe. IF there is an Euro to win it, then Netherlands with a very outside chance of winning the WC to break this "rule", but so many things have to break just right for the Dutchies. Italia may KO them in second round.

Only Euro and S American teams win WCs. Brasil and Argentina in the Final.

Big 4 + hosts theory (when Uruguay won in 1950 they were big). Brasil, Argentina, Italia, Germany and let's call all the Africans as hosts for this WC.

England to reach the semis for the first time outside Europe. England has never won ANYTHING internationally, absolutely nothing at all. It took a huge fraud in 1966 in their own house to lift the trophy. The robbery of the century. KO in group stage in WC 2010.

All you have to do is click on Alberto and then posts. Every other post will be basically saying the same thing.

What he is saying has been repeated on a loop for the past 4 years so I doubt anyone would need reminding of it.

    Ain't that right Puro Biggrin

Out of those four options, the first one is obviously most likely

one rule says that the Confederation Cup winner

NEVER goes on to win the World Cup

    BAD news for Brazil

    +

the reigning European Champs usually do NOT go on to win the World Cup

Germany winning in 72 and 74 were an exception

if BOTH rules turn out to still hold

the title will be decided between Italy, Germany and a black-African nation

according to the Big Three + Host theory

    which CANNOT be broken

    cheers

I think that if we don't win it, Holland will (they're pretty impressive at the moment).
So, it'll be an European team, who never won it, who will take the trophy.

I seriously doubt Holland will win this world cup.... maybe if they had a Stam and a Rijkaard in this squad.... but at the mo their defence is too weak to win. The first quality counter-attacking team they play, Holland are going out.

    apart from the

    Big 3 + Host Rule

most of the others are tenuous to say the least

interesting little fact I noticed yesterday

in 1990, when Germany beat Argentina in the FINAL to become Champs

it was the FIRST time, that a EUROPEAN team had beaten a South American team in the Final of the World Cup

    which I suppose

leads us to Rule number 2, that STILL IS relevant

    Rules apply to EVERYBODY

    apart from GERMANY

    we BREAK them cheers

    ie

    1. Big 3 + Host

    2. NONE of the artificial rules apply to GERMANY

    Smile

well, you could call Holland a counter-attacking team as well. We beat Italy and France two years ago basically counter-attacking. The defence is made stronger with the two defensive midfield players, leaving only four attacking players.
I don't think Holland will win the world cup either, mind you. I think Brazil or Argentina are most likely.

It's now up to Germany and Argentina to defend the big 4 + hosts theory.

And it's now up to Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Ghana to defend the Europe only win at home theory.

I think that if Ghana beat Uruguay they will also beat Holland. They have a very strong defence and are an organized team. I won't be surprised if they win the WC.

Uruguay, though, may lose to Holland if they beat Ghana, but they are my favourite team among the ones that are still alive.

Paraguay may lose to Spain, but I still hope for a heroic Paraguayan victory in a pleasant violent game.

    Argentina-Germany is 50-50 for me.

    Libertadores style. ok

When there wasn't TV covering for most Libertadores games, in teh 60s and 70s, it was absurdly violent. Once I saw a player (don't remember who, but I never forgot what he said) saying on TV that in a 70s game against Uruguayan Peñarol an Uruguayan defender was playing holding a stone and hitting Brazilian players with it, and the ref turning a blind eye.

And the fans behaviour is also intimidating, that's why home advantage in South America counts much more.

Of course it's not half as violent anymore, but it's still a war compared to euro cups.

Policemen holding shields to protect a player in the corner cross is still a common scene in Libertadores.
