World cup Injured XI Empty World cup Injured XI

Post by bluenine Fri Jun 04, 2010 11:04 pm

This WC is getting hit by some key injuries... The "Injured XI" are players to will miss or are likely to miss the World Cup mainly due to injury:
    Adler
    xx - Nesta - Ferdinand? - xx
    Pirlo? - Essien
    Beckham - Ballack - Camoranesi?
    Drogba

Subs: H Suazo?, Altidore?, Hargreaves, Lescott, Westermann, Barry?, Torres?

(Nesta, I know, he might not have come out of retirement anyways... but if he was fit, there was a chance...)

So whats your "Injured XI"? I am sure I missed a lot of top names...

Camoranesi? The only XI he deserves to be is big game choker XI.

Technically Riquelme and Miccoli are injured though i guess neither would have been selected.

    and Lescott>Rio ok

how many real world stars and captains are out in total?

Could this tournament be remembered for the players absent

    We're already missing:
Beckham, the most famous player in the world
Ballack, the most famous German player in the world
Drogba, the best striker in the world and Ivory Coast captain
Owen, the 2nd most famous and 3rd best striker in the world.
    Ferdinand, the England captain
    Essien, Ghana captain
    Obi Mikel, Nigeria captain

Pirlo was MOTM in last years final

I think if we lost 4 or 5 more big name players the legacy of this tournament will be overshadowed

    Ronaldinho, Theo Walcott...unpicked
    Zlatan Chokovich, Dimitar Berbaflop...unqualified
    Cesc Totti, John Barnes...retired

If anything happens to Ryan Babel we might as well scrap the whole thing.

if we lose one of more of Rooney, Messi, Kaka, Cronaldo, Torres, Villa etc or some of high profile world starts like Gerrard, Lampard, Henry, Ribery, Robben, Alves then there is a real chance we'l be remembering the injuries more than usual.

Most of the injuries (Beckham aside) thus far are defensive less sexy names that people who only watch football when the World Cup is on might not have heard of.

Drogba and Ferdinand are the only ones who will really be missed.

    That's nothing Ale

Compare it to 1978 : Holland didn't bring it's two best players (Cruyff and Van Hanegem), I don't think nowadays anyone even realizes that they weren't there...

Ballack, Mikel and Essien are all huge losses to their side. Like Drogba they're pretty much irreplaceable and the national captain also.

The beautiful thing about World Cup is that new stars can be created. People will remember the World cup for the players and teams that make their names at it. No-one's really gonna care who was injured.

I agree to an extent, but I also think it will devalue the tournament if the top sides are there with B squads.

So what, that makes them not big players per se.

Makes them the biggest players in poor teams.
