Arteta now qualifies to play for England. I obviously would be against it but if everyone else is going to continue to have Ghanians, Brazillians, Turks and co in their team then we may have to join the club.

    Get him in

He's been playing in the UK from around 2002 (bar one year) so more than meets the current international criteria

He speaks better English than most of the players, so at least the post-match interviews might be bearable.

So you would play him in a deep midfield position along with ickle Jamie Milner/Lampard? Like i said, why call up Arteta so he can be Stevie Me's waterboy? <Ale>

scratch I would play 4-2-3-1 and play him either in the middle or on the right of the 3. Steven Gerrard would be history.

When Rooney went off it was 4-5-1 Gerrard playing where ever he wanted.
Arteta would be nice but hope this never happens rather let other countries cheat, there is plenty of room for young blood to move in and get a chance.

True was still more British than Arteta following blood lines. Besides the way Canada treat Football over here he did the right thing. Football is kept down growth wise in this country so it will never be able to compete with Hockey and take money away from that sport.

    What's you team Kimmy ?

At the start of this thread i said this would be my provisional team for the Hungary friendly.

    -------------------Hart-------------------

    Johnson---Jagielka--Lescott---Cole

    --------Huddlestone----Barry--------
    ------------------J.Cole------------------

    ---Agbonlahor----------A.Johnson---
    -----------------Rooney----------------

I don't really have a nailed on team, we have to see what the young ones do this season and hopefully have a fairly settled team by next season. Lampard, Gerrard, and Terry would not make the squad though no matter what, if i was manager they would be effectively retired from internationals. <Ale>

This is all piss up a wall though, Capello isn't changing and therefore England will make the same mistakes for yet another tournament. I'm sure you'll be happy, maybe your golden boy will make 100 caps, goody! ok

I'm hoping someone will come through to replace him. I don't think he's a massive problem though, at the world cup he was injured and we suffered because Capello didn't take a replacement.

Happy with Gerrard staying in the team he offers a better offensive threat than Joe Cole and Lampard and is more mobile as well.

Huddlestone and Barry are both slow togetther specially with Joe in front Doh

Milner Barry for now would be okay.

It's just a provisional squad for a friendly, jesus christ. And Milner still isn't a DM no matter how much you repeat it, he will get out muscled by average players in the middle. Atleast tugboat Tom would provide strength/weight and passing ability. Milner and Barry as a CM partnership sounds abysmal to me.

Anyway, who really cares, for two years this stuff takes a backseat.

Look what is Clear chappo's Gerrard today played an easy game for him you could see it in his movement. As Captain of England he could pull that off just as easy no matter who plays beside him, like today first half Mascherano was totally outclassed by Gerrard even Barry would of been a better use to pool today......... Never liked DM's always said that and Gerrard is proof how a classy CM can take care cover and Pass....Ale

Come on Paddy, there are 4 "superstars" in the England squad. Rooney, Terry, Lampard and Gerrard, they're the "untouchables"(along with AC ofcourse but he actually deserves it), and as we've seen from their actions on the pitch week in week out they are arrogant egomaniacs. They're the chiefs, everyone else is a stinking Indian. They also have alot of tabloid bullshit following them around, we may aswell have Jordan and that Katona woman in the team. I would just get rid of them and start a new, fuck finding them new positions to be overrated in.

Gerrard isn't really known for having an influence mate. He is a quiet and dull fella in real life by all accounts.

No point just binning them all when there are no better alternatives, especially when Gerrard has been one of Capello's better performers recently and is one of the most talented players available to him. It just isn't going to happen.

P.S Rooney also deserves his untouchable status. I don't think you would find a single manager in the world who wouldn't play him.

He walked into the captaincy despite his off-field violence and years of underperforming, yet he doesn't have influence? I don't buy it.

1 win against Hungary does nothing for me, everyone seems to have forgotten the WC and are back to hoping these guys will finally perform again. It's deja vu.

I would keep Rooney as he's young enough to turn it around, we just need to take the emphasis off him and onto the team. The other 3 i don't see the point in bothering with anymore.

He didn't walk into the captaincy.

Terry had it then lost it. Then Rio was given it but he is currently injured so Gerrard is 3rd choice.

Seriously england have tried lots of the fringe players and they rarely impress either. Your point of view is understandable but not really realistic.
