Here's what Holtby says: 'I have both countries in my heart. I supported England as a child, but I'm not a traitor. I must have honour and respect for Germany. I love the country of England, but Germany have given me the honour of the captaincy at Under 21 level and I have to give them back that respect.
'It is the bizarre thing. It's funny.
I always supported England but now I play for Germany. 'I must admit when England won 5-1 in Munich (when he was 11) I was really English, I had my shirt on, everything. GOOD LAD!
'This year I watched the World Cup match between England and Germany with my dad. He was biting his fingernails and I sat there calm, relaxed, hoping really for a good game that ended in a draw with the best team winning through. Afterwards my dad was sad, and when the Lampard "goal" wasn't given, he was choked.
'For me personally, to one day play for Germany and then the next for England would be difficult. To settle in a team full of English guys having come from the German team ... well, it is not like switching clubs.
'I have to pay respect to Germany, for what they have done for me, how they have helped develop me. It is a decision I have probably made. But it would be an honour to do both.'

Sounds pretty English to me. Good to see the Germans keeping up that fine tradition of poaching other nationalities at a young age
