He would be in my worst XI of the world cup, although he had plenty of competition.

I don't think any goalkeeper performed particularly competently, too often now in modern football, goalkeepers have poor command and handling, poor tactical handling and distribution (Reina aside, he is absolutely one of the best for this), but plenty of good shot stoppers. Muslera is a really good stopper, sure his command of the box and his decisions are awful, but no keeper stood out, he made some good saves though, and his penalty expertise stood him to put them through v Ghana so he was decisive.

    hrmmmmm

    Stekelenberg

    Van Der Wiel-----Puyol----Pique-----Coentrao

    Schweinsteiger---Khedira

    -------------Ozil---------------

    Muller------Forlan----------Villa

    EDIT:
    Just to explain my decisions:
Stekelenberg made fantastic saves to keep his team in the game against Brazil and against Spain and really did make a telling contribution to his team's fortunes in the tournement. Naturally won't want to see Forlan's shot again but commanded his area well and had good hands from crosses.

Pique+Puyol - can't really think of a better partnership throughout the tournement, Matheijsen played well and gave me slight pause for thought but only really because he didn't have as much expectation on him and perhaps overachieved.

Coentrao+Van der Wiel - both epitomise the young, fast, modern full-back. Both very quick and clever with deceptively good tackling to add to their repetoire

Muller+Ozil+Khedira+Schweinsteiger - the heartbeat of the most attractive team of the tournement which gave us great counter-attacking football.

Forlan - deserved winner of the golden ball. Great attacking threat, decision-making and great leadership to take Uruguay to the last 4.

Villa - probably played slightly below himself but scored the big goals in the big games which made the difference in Spain's eventual triumph, enabling them to avoid potential minefields of extra-time and penalties against both Portugal and Paraguay. One too casual group-stage penalty kick away from the Golden Boot.

His penalty expertise didn't put Uruguay through, Suarez's cheating and then two dreadful penalties from Ghana that my gran could have saved put Uruguay through.

I think Muslera has been poor, however good he might be outside of these few games.

    from Germany it should feature

    Friedrich: THE surprise

    Schweini

    Müller: THE revelation

Klose: certainly on the bench, maybe even in the first team; remember he did not even play 5 full games; and is FAR MORE complete than Villa

as for Özil: still pretty much a fair-weather player; when we really needed him over 90 minutes (Ghana, Spain, Serbia), he disappeared: will be HUGE in the future though

Just Spain team and gogogo. No reason to change things which obviously work. Picking up star players with no teamskill will only get them as far as Brazil, Argentina etc.

Robben for the striker, nice performance vs spain.

What, just because his team didn't get far? I thought his individual performances were very good and better than Khedira and Melo the only other players I would seriously consider for that position. I simply will not have Van Bommel, the natural candidate for this position, in my team.
