dont get me wrong, i am very happy about that all german stars stay in bundesliga, but for me i dont understand this why no real deals already done

ÖZIL - the best playmaker and brightest talent in world footabll can leave for arround 15 million € and it looks like no one is really interested in england, i can understand why real and barca dont really need him, but he would walk in any side in england

mertesacker - the best and most underrated defender, but no arsene wenger goes for another frenchie

have germans really such a bad standing in europe or what is going on, me thinks if özil would be a portugal or argentine player the prize would be arround 30 million and would have already signed for real or barca

I am shocked how few clubs are interested in Ozil at that price... I don't think its about Ozil's nationality... its more like the problem with modern football, all coaches are interested in just the musclemen. IMO Ozil for 15m is a steal, hope Inter go after him (unlikely tho, as we already have Sneijder and Coutinho for that role). The club that needs Ozil the most is Milan, but considering their budget trend, thats quite unlikely too.

Mertesacker, don't really rate him that high, so not so surprised in this case.

coaches have probably learnt not to pay players after the hype of the world cup, after many a mistakes over the years.

as for Ozil while 15m euros is a steal, why spend that much when you can join the scrabble toget him for free next season.

I agree with Blue that Ozil is exactly the type of player Milan needs.

The question is, who needs Ozil?

Chelsea could probably use him but they have Lampard who needs the same freedom that Ozil does and he seems to be sacred even though I think going for somebody like Ozil would be a better move.

Arsenal would probably have bought him if they sold Cesc allthough with Wenger you never know.

Man Utd might have been an option allthough it would force Rooney to play as a striker.

Apart from that I can't see who would be interested. Inter/Barcelona/Real have players in that position. Juventus would be smart to be in the market for him now that they are foolishly letting Diego go. However I suspect they will go for second forward rather then a Am even if the distinction won't be that big under Delneri. Berlusconi's Milan has no intention of competing so that won't happen.

Like Messiah said going after players on the basis of WC hype is not always the best move either. Especially when he isn't proven in Cl. Personally I would take the chance on him if I was running Chelsea/Arsenal(selling Cesc)/Man Utd/Juventus.

Özil would suit us playing further forward, rather than as a Cesc replacement, although if he had gone then it might have prompted a bit of a reconfiguration for us. Him and Arshavin playing off van Persie could have been good.

A few reasons for this I think. Firstly, he seems to have limited his attentions to the very top level of teams and they don't seem to have expressed any real interest (although apparently Chelsea have made a few enquiries). A Spanish team have offered €12m, but I'm not sure who (it's not Barca) and that hasn't progressed. The second reason is that Bremen haven't been especially willing to sell. The money they could bring in when he has 1 year left on his contract is no greater than the revenue they would gain if he can help them into the CL at the end of the season. Likewise, they have imposed a deadline that ends soon before the CL qualifiers because if he can help them into the group stages he will have brought in a lot more revenue but will be cup-tied. Plus he hasn't kicked up a fuss about leaving.

On a general note, what is going on with the 'conveyor belt of talent'? The under-21's look hapless at the moment.

I think the thing with German players is that most of them dont perform as good for club level as they do for national level and when they go outside Germany they lose touch with the 'German system' giving them less chance of playing for the national team.

As for Ozil I think he differs from other German players, he seems like the only German player that can dribble a defender, and he is left footed which is a good asset, I think he would do well outside, and Barca should go for him instead of Cesc, he is a good passer matching their game and he is nimble.

In Milan I gave up hope of signing anyone good anymore, our policy is to sign either unknowns or a former great who is looking to revive his career!

but you need also at least 1 or 2 very good footballers in your midfield, look at chelsea, they are only muscles and hoofs, no team with muscles alone has ever won the cl, you need some kind of brilliance in your team especially in midfield

özil was not only WC hype, he is the best AM in bundesliga, i dont know why, clubs always buying the best players from smaller leagues, me thinks they are higher rated then the best players in the german league

    di maria
    endless african players
    vermalen
    the new frenchie for arsenal

the top 2 of england need özil, but no ferguson pays money for two unproven striker kids, or chelsea for ramirez, chelsea again on there hoofing trip and gonna be outplayed by better footballers in this years cl

when the money is ok then bremen will sell him, they need the money because next year hes on free

serioulsly i dont know why this u21 team performs so shit, bring hrubesch back

there were not many german players in other big leagues, that you can say they perform bad in general, but for most german players its not even worthy to move to another league, the bundesliga is simply very attractive

i think in this new generation we have some footballers they can dribble past defenders (marin, kroos, özil), but i dont think thats a key reason, in modern football dribbling skills not really important

i think this not proven in cl in nonsense, was kaka proven before he joined milan! they just have seen the talent

that counts for most young players, clubs buying young players by looking at them on the field and realize what talent they have

You can't compare it in that way Ozil. What you should do is point out transfers from big teams where they have bought players that play in a similar position to Ozil and where it would have made more sense to get him. No big club has bought anybody in that position.

However Barcelona tried to get Cesc but that is as much for political reasons as anything because most agree that they don't need him. I do believe that Arsenal would have gone for him if they sold Cesc and imo they would be better off.

He is a very different player to Cesc though, I get a little puzzled when I hear him discussed in terms of a Scholes or Cesc replacement. It could work but would necessitate a change of system (as SG pretty much said).

On topic it is hard to disagree, as put perhaps surprisingly eloquently in Özil's second post – Arsenal for one could do with the likes of Adler or Hummels (would the former cost more than €15m? we should probably be prepared to pay that much for a keeper if need be rather than settling for a cheap stopgap), and there are plenty of comparable players who might fit the bill even at big clubs.

So far there only seems to be Khedira, which could work if he really is viewed as a starter, and Boateng at City, which like many of their signings is a bit of a head-scratcher – he's good, could be very good, but not great, no Philipp Lahm, certainly not at full-back.

Most people that watch Ozil will agree this is by no means WC hype, this kid has been excellent in general. I think the people that have noticed in the right places will closely monitor him now, but at the moment none of the big clubs that can afford him need his services, and if he leaves Germany he deserves to go to a bigger side and be sold to the biggest offer.

He's still very young, so I hope he stays and does his thing at Bremen. This topic was created by a Bayern fan after all, wouldn't think any Bremen fans are complaining that their star is sticking around at this moment in time Wink
