'To be honest I don't get that,' adds Carragher. 'I mean, what do you expect from a World Cup? Are you expecting the fair every afternoon? The lads were playing golf twice a week. What else is there to do? I brought all my DVDs and books. You train in the morning, you have the afternoon off. The only thing I'd say is that we probably got to the World Cup base three or four days too early. I don't know what people think other teams were doing; I enjoyed it a lot more than in Germany in 2006.
When I came back home [after England were knocked out] and read the press on Holland, saying how great it was that their families were mixing with them and that you could see the wives, I thought: "Oh my God! What *****''.'

Everyone has their own way of doing things and if you win, then you can do whatever you want because some of the things that people were getting praised for, we were getting criticised for in Germany. It all boils down to results.'

Another sign that the recent Capello backlash has been driven by the section of the players trying to shift the blame for the WC fiasco (read: Terry, Lumpard, Cole) and their lapdogs in the press as I thought they would. Carragher isn't part of that and he is honest in his assessment.

1: it's true, the best premierleague sides are better than the german national team. nothing wrong with that.

2: England players aren't the best technically, but it does get noticeably worse when they play big games for England.

You overrate Germany. Most club sides would beat the German national team. Bayern are a better side than the German national team, and Man United only lost to them on away goals over 2 legs after having a man sent off. I don't see what is so controversial about this.

The issue of Gerrard and Lampard - that's another matter / argument.

I don't support Man United, I don't honestly care enough to complain - this has nothing to do with 99, I'm providing you with a reason why Germany are NOT better than Man United. Bayern Munich would beat Germany almost certainly. Man United are capable of beating Bayern Munich, so why not Germany?

Barcelona are better than Spain
Bayern Munich are better than Germany
Tottenham Hotspur are better than England

Of the teams in England, I do agree with Carragher than Man United and Chelsea could beat most countries, Germany included. I don't agree Liverpool could though, at least not last season. They'd struggle to beat Burkino Faso on last season's form.

All in all, with his Liverpool comment: Germany are BETTER than he (Carragher) gives credit for, but equally, not as good as you think they are. So, a CL team but not a Championship winning team

Germany better then the Big sides in England

Germany looked great against England who played Lampard-Gerrard as a central midfield. Neither of whom would be allowed to play in a two man midfield for their club(under Benitez) in Cl.

Germany looked great against Argentina who played with a ONE MAN MIDFIELD. Germany were up against absurd tactics that made them look much better then they were.

The 3 sides they met who played a 3 man midfield all made them look much weaker. Against Serbia they lost. Against Ghana it was a pretty even game. Spain was too much for Germany. Also club teams are just better drilled everywhere since the players know each other well from constantly training together. Liverpool/Man Utd/Chelsea would all beat Germany. As would Inter/Barca/Real Madrid/Bayern.

Only Spain and Brazil would be a great side in Cl allthough I would put them on par with the best club teams in the world. You hugely overrate international football.

i am always talking under the point that germany would have the same time to gel as a club team

germany have the players to beat any club side, better defence and goalkeeper than bayern, the rest is nearly equal

against serbia we looked like the better team with 10 men, against ghana it was a high pressure game our young guns couldn`t handle that well

germanys midfield is WC which can competete with the best club sides in the world, there is possibly one player in the whole epl who would fit into the german midfield thats essien when hes not injured

germanys central defence is far better then the bayern centre backs, also manuel neuer is better then butt

thomas müller is brilliant as 2nd striker, thats what i call an overall game, not rooneys hahaha

I think you're being a bit unfair on Germany, playing them down so much. You shouldn't be shy to really big them up, well beyond what is actually the reality. Seriously - don't hold back
