    Ya, I'm not sure really. Transfers like Milner will cancel out in the net spend. £212m on imports:

    Man City account for 100m or so, with Silva, Balotelli, Yaya, Boateng and that LB whose name I forget

    Gyan = 13m

    Couple of random strikers Utd signed = 15m

    Ramires = 17m

    Meireles = 14m

    Which leaves another ~50m spent on I'm not sure who.

    Arsenal spent approx £10mil on Koscielny, Sandro cost Spurs around £8mil, haven't Birmingham done some spending too?

    What became clear over the summer is that the top players still don't see the Bundesliga as an option. I seriously doubt Ibrahimovic or Robinho or Mascherano would ever consider playing there. Certainly a healthy league with solid finances, but not a league for stars. The fact that Raul and a Milan reject grace a CL team like Schalke says much.

    Yes but this allows local players to perform, the proof is that the level of the national team has improved by alot. In Germany it was never the league for the stars, they only sign the type of playrs that are needed, and given that schalke have no more finishers, raul and huntelaar are suitable, especially raul with his experience and for free can only be a good thing.

    I wouldn't say the national team has improved a lot. The national team of the 1990s was fantastic, and actually won something. 2000 and 2004 were blips but Germany generally have solid teams at tournaments. Co-efficient rankings definitely are important indicators of a league's health, but so is what players perceive as the top league. And Spain and Italy have each won honours on the world stage this decade despite having many foreigners.

    You could also just look at Cl and here Germany still has quite a bit of catching up to do. I agree with Forza but the future might very well be in Germany and when the comming recession(1-2 years) kicks in the German league might be too strong financially to not attract bigger talent. Currently though I still don't think the domestic talent is quite up there just yet.

    its the first time in my lifetime where i dont fear the italien team, germany is simply miles ahead, you had a great generation of footballers, but now its germanys turn

    i dont think robinho and ibra first class players, good league players but thats it, only bayern could afford them, but they already have better material

    italy won the title on there last possibility, but how many future players have milan and inter now for italy! 1 or 2 !!

    Offcourse I am not saying that the German league is the strongest at the moment, what I mean is that Germany is the only league that is taking big steps forward because they are attracting the correct type of players and the ones that dont affect the growth of their local players negatively.

    In Italy they have taken big steps behind after calciopoli and only lately are they showing signs that they want to get out of this mess, I never rule them out because they are the true pioneers of beautiful and intelligent football, but by the time they get there Germany will probably become the main force. The national team won the WC before calciopoli really affected italian football, they did not loose their competitive edge by then.

    In Spain the national team has won so much recently because it adopted the barcelona style of football which everyone is trying to figure out how to stop it til now. Spanish football is not dynamic enough, it is simpler than it looks, basically you have 4 big guys in defence who can pass well, and the rest are running midgets that are impossible to keep up with so you either foul them and get a red card or exhaust yourself and die out in the end, but once the code is cracked it will be hard for spain to come up with something new.

    Germany like Italy are the true masters of european football, Italians look deeper into details than Germany but Germany is a machine that does not die out. Yes in the early and mid 2000s it wasnt the Germany we all know (the league was becoming shit too), and eventhough they could still grind out some good results it wasnt the best German performance. But last world cup Germany looked better than anytime before, their only problem was that they could not crack the code due to their trauma from Spain, but they already established a good future because many of the stars of their campaign were young players who are playing their first major national tournament.
