do they get credit for their loyalty?
There are differing degrees of loyalty.
1. There is the Trezeguet / DONKEY / to a certain extent Buffon loyalty. These players will stay for ONE season at the absolute maximum. Personally i feel Trez and DONKEY will be gone in January and Buffon will depart in the summer if Juve fail to achieve promotion. This loyalty is temporary, it's not genuine.
2. The Nedved, del Piero loyalty - players at the end of their careers. The cynics in Italy have had a field day with these two - their 'loyalty', especially in Nedved's case after claiming all summer he was off, amounts to nothing more than one last glorious end to their careers by making Serie B players look stupid.
Del piero's case is slightly different, he IS a legend with the Ultras and fans, his open letter to the Juventini in the summer was adequate proof, Juve is his love he was never going to leave. He is the only one you can say with safety that his loyalty is placed for the right reasons.
As for the others, well promising youth players are usually loaned out to lesser Serie A sides and top Serie B sides, so it makes little difference to them, if anything it means more to play for their contracted clubs in divisions they probably would have been playing regardless.
Others such as Marchionni, Zanetti and Bojinov the situation is more complex - they were signed and contracted before this mess, so have little option, Juve aren't going to sell them and they aren't going to leave. Most seem to assume it will 'just' be one season in B, then a glorious return to the top level.
As for statues and streets?!! Hmm, i'm not sure about that! Italian supporters, we're notoriously fickle, if they fail to achieve promotion THEN see how many will still be calling them heroes!
