    Juve LEGENDS Empty Juve LEGENDS

    Post by Ä Wed Sep 20, 2006 5:15 pm

chaps like del Piero and Buffon have decided to play for Juve, Italy's most popular club, in Seria B as well

will their exaggerated loyalty be rewarded by Juve fans ?

are those Italian superstars now becoming immortals who will have streets named after them from Sicily to Trieste ?

True, but the stadiums away will be packed. Juventus need to move their ground somewhere, like in Rome.

The away stadiums certainly aren't packed!

Look at the crowd they took to Rimini! Laugh

Juve have had low attendances since the 1990s, it's not a 'new' phenomena, and it isn't unexpected, the simple fact is - their stadium is shit, and most supporters can't be bothered to travel all the way up from the South only to then have to travel outside Turin to a ridiculously inaccessible area!

Have any of you actually been to Delle Alpi? Those of you that have will know the following facts:

    There is ZERO atmosphere.
You can hardly SEE anything - the Pitch is miles from the stands.
    It's a concrete monstrosity.
The stadium is poorly located and a pain to travel to by car, train or bus.

There are differing degrees of loyalty.

    1. There is the Trezeguet / DONKEY / to a certain extent Buffon loyalty. These players will stay for ONE season at the absolute maximum. Personally i feel Trez and DONKEY will be gone in January and Buffon will depart in the summer if Juve fail to achieve promotion. This loyalty is temporary, it's not genuine.

    2. The Nedved, del Piero loyalty - players at the end of their careers. The cynics in Italy have had a field day with these two - their 'loyalty', especially in Nedved's case after claiming all summer he was off, amounts to nothing more than one last glorious end to their careers by making Serie B players look stupid.

Del piero's case is slightly different, he IS a legend with the Ultras and fans, his open letter to the Juventini in the summer was adequate proof, Juve is his love he was never going to leave. He is the only one you can say with safety that his loyalty is placed for the right reasons.

As for the others, well promising youth players are usually loaned out to lesser Serie A sides and top Serie B sides, so it makes little difference to them, if anything it means more to play for their contracted clubs in divisions they probably would have been playing regardless.

Others such as Marchionni, Zanetti and Bojinov the situation is more complex - they were signed and contracted before this mess, so have little option, Juve aren't going to sell them and they aren't going to leave. Most seem to assume it will 'just' be one season in B, then a glorious return to the top level.

As for statues and streets?!! Hmm, i'm not sure about that! Italian supporters, we're notoriously fickle, if they fail to achieve promotion THEN see how many will still be calling them heroes! Wink

Del Piero's loyalty is beyond question.

There will undoubtedly be a street named after him, statue outside the stadium, etc.

Pinturrichio, the best there ever was.

I've been to the stadium, and I remember the long dirt trek up to it from the tram stop. I remember thinking I was in a desert wasteland. It is an horrific piece of architecture.
