Who do you regard as legends of the game that don't get the recognition they deserve? e.g the likes of Mostovoi, Le Tissier, 'Magico' Gonzalez

Re: Legends
Angelo Di livio! He was my favourite player in the mid 90's!! A good footballer as well.
And he wrote the predictions he thought it would be on his arm!! He got them usually wrong though...but still, awesome guy.
When Fiorentina went bankrupt...he stayed!! Like a captain with his ship.
LEGEND!

Re: Legends
Jari Litmanen had incredible skills and vision.
He was unlucky that he played in an era where there were so many great players, sometimes when mentioning the likes of Bergkamp, Zidane, Rivaldo and Nedved it is easy to forget Litmanen. He had a great spell at Ajax but he was unlucky that he only lasted one season at Barcelona.

Re: Legends
Ricardo Sá Pinto.
Heart of a Lion. No player ever played with more passion than this guy ever... more skill sure.. but never with more passion.
Did a lot for Portugal, playing the strikers position when no one else could, and was an inspiration to everyone at Sporting.
Fought through so many injuries, caused by giving his outmost effort, I'd love to have him in the Sporting set-up once he finally retires.

Good call.
I remember a match in which he single handedly took Portugal apart.

Gheorghe Hagi!
Never really gets a mention, was an incredible midfielder. For Romania and Galatasaray he was immense.

Yup, he had decided to give up football... but was unjustly sent off to keep him from playing his final match at home.
He decided to stay as a player, but Bento had already accepted his decision to retire...and didn't think he had a place for him anymore.
Sá Pinto decided he'd keep playing and went to Belgium. He's doing well from what I understand though.
He went back to Sporting not too long ago, his hear is still that of a Lion from what he said ... great man.

I think that's only because Romania were a decent team...unlike Finland, who are only becoming a half decent team now. Therefore many people will remember Hagi's performances for Romania and that will get him recognised. I don't think Hagi gets much recognition for club achievements though.

Re: Legends
For pure skill, I guess we can add João Vieira Pinto.
There were few in the game with his ability on the ball and arial technique.
He performed at international level for Portugal the way few have before him, scoring some big goals along the way, having really only Rui Costa, Figo and Eusebio ahead of him IMO.
Great player within Portugal that didn't win as much as he should've...still showing his skills at Braga these days.
Seriously, a great player.

Yup, he was the leader of a good squad with Romania.
He also lead Gala to the Uefa cup and Euro Super cup... I think he's remembered for that.
Actually, he's prob given more credit for those cup wins then, say, Deco was for his role in Porto's wins... Deco is recognised now, but I don't think he got the credit Hagi did at the for example.
Deco at Barça is a diff story though...even if he did win the Best Mid award with Porto, I think his play for Barça has been greated with greater respect.

Re: Legends
Good call on Paulo Sousa.
He won plenty, a really good amount, but was dragged down by injuries.
He was at a diferent class. Up there with Rui Costa and Figo during his time... never had their impact for Portugal simply because of those injuries.

Re: Legends
Henrik Larsson. Scored millions of goals at Celtic but was equally amazing at Barcelona (and quite good at Man. Utd. too).
I only wish he came to us sooner, or didn't leave for Helsingborg so soon, because he's still scoring regularly for them in the league as well as UEFA.

He singlehandedly destroyed Werder Bremen for us.
Last 16 Cup Winners Cup 1994/1995:
Feyenoord - Werder Bremen 1:0 (0:0)
(Larsson 63)
Werder Bremen - FEYENOORD 3:4 (1:2)
(Beschastnykh 12, 60, Basler 90 - Larsson 21, 34, 66 p, Heus 56 p)

Re: Legends
Paul McGrath. he's called God for a reason. one of the very best defenders to play in english football the last 20 years - probably could've been even better if he hadn't been an alcoholic who struggled with knee injuries throughout his career.
most famous performance was probably for Ireland in their win over Italy in World cup 94. just an awesome defender.
