I thought the Theo one was a cert penalty. He was in on goal and that tug definitely put him off balance at the crucial moment

With luck we live to fight another day in this competition, but that was awful. The gap between our first choice XI (which really picks itself now) and our reserves is massive. From those that started outfield, I'd say Djourou was the only one that can come away with any credit.

Arshavin & Bendtner were beyond useless, they would have struggled against a Blue Square outfit today.

Elland Road midweek, just what we need. Rolling Eyes

If that happens in midfield no way does the referee give anything. I know, the rules are applied very differently for penalties than free kicks but by the letter of the law it's meant to be the same. Still, between the two incidents there's a penalty, so I'm not complaining.

Yes that's true but unlike before the first XI can easily carry 2/3 maybe four of the reserves without loosing much quality as long as Fabregas and one of Djourou/Vermalen are playing.

Pretty sure it would be given as a free kick if one player is holding another back, and a yellow card if it's to stop a breakaway attack.

It was quite soft though, usuaslly in English competitions this sort of stuff isn't given in the box.

We didn't fuck it up but scored a third Shocked

A really lovely goal, Walker brought it out of defence brilliantly, then Petrov did a one-two with Albrighton, stepped inside and blasted it in. Why can't we do that more often?

It's not so much a gap in quality, but in application and effort. Some of these squad players are in the odd position of not being good enough to start for us, but think that they are above games like this. Most of them just strolled around. Djourou and the goalkeeper were the only starters who really looked alert and who looked like they cared. Some of the others were ok, most were awful. Eboue did a creditable job of rivalling Arshavin as the laziest man in the team. So many times he just dropped to the floor or started ambling back whilst Leeds attacked down his side. He was equally lazy against Wigan and it's not good enough.

I thought the result was a fair reflection on the game. We created more than enough chances to win it, but were poor for the most part. Leeds applied themselves well and were a threat in the second half. Their penalty looked clear enough from where I sat. I thought our first penalty appeal was a blatant penalty, and the one we got a little weaker but still a fair call. It's the sort of decision that is often not given though, especially when the player manages to get a shot off.

I guess when you're a mid-table side like Newcastle you have to expect losses to Stevenage.

Red card for Tiote. The contact with the Stevenage player wasn't dangerous, and it wasn't two-footed. The problem for Tiote was the ludicrously exaggerated lunge. He jumped so high into the challenge that it looked much more reckless than it actually was.

I wouldn't care if Pardew was sacked. I'm not that bothered about being out of the FA Cup, we're always guff at it and were never going to win it, it's a bit embarrassing going out to a league 2 side though. I just hope Tiote's card is rescinded for the big one next week.

Brilliant strike from Barton to give Newcastle hope of salvaging a draw. Or not, they score again almost immediately. 3-1 now.
