I don't even know that Goram has the potential lol!

To put Sammer and Redondo in that team is travesty. Will make my team later on...

well, in a sense he's on something.
I remember Sammer coming to Inter something like 20 years ago and he was supposed to be a powerful mezz'ala.
He bottled big time and back in Germany he recycled himself as libero.
So in a sense he didn't live up to his original potential =D
Then he also had to retire early for a bad knee.
(btw in my humble opinion his Baloon d'Or was more overrated than Cannavaro's)

Redondo was a huge player but his career wasn't blessed by luck, he wasn't called for WC 98 because he refused to get a haircut for Passarella, go figure that, he was probably the best midfielder in the world at the time and was dropped for a tuft of hair.
He also was sidelined by injuries just past 30, Milan brought him for 35 billion lira and he couldn't play a game for them - he even gave back his wages after a while, great guy.

    btw, great selection @jaimito

I included Sammer and Redondo because they don't have the leagacies their talent probably deserves. Sammer could have arguably gone down as one of the best CB's/DM's of all time, but really he just remembered as a very good player with a truncated career. Likewise with Redondo, he didn't achieve all that he could in the game. I mean Redondo only had 29 caps for Argentina...

Sammer won the Balon d'Or ffs. Maybe abundance is correct and he was not the clearest winner ever but still. And Redondo maybe didn't win that many caps for Argentina but he refused a call to the 1990 WC because he wanted to concentrate on his studies, everyone knows about 1998 and his fallout with Passarella over the hair. But he still played in a World Cup and a Copa America. Not to mention winning everything at club level there is and being named the best player in 97-98 Champions League. Maybe they didn't achieve 'everything' in the game, but to put those players in with the likes of Robinho (i.e. little sh!ts that have done nothing in the game) is a not right.

Calidad is right - Sammer could have had a much more successful career, despite winning quite a bit of silver ware. He wasn't overrated though, far from it. Potentially, he was the most talented German player since Schuster, on par with Matthäus. The latter made a lot more out of it.

Paddy K,ronaldo and dinho, up front for me, they all had very good to great careers, but they could have been so much more.

Paddy K, is the single post complete striker football has seen in god knows how long, but his career didn't live up to that.

ronaldo injuries and stupid advice, stopped him from being mentioned with the all time greats, pele's and maradona's.

Dinho the man made football a game, if one understands what i am saying, pure joy in his feet, so much talent its not even funny, could do anything in the attacking 3rd of the pitch, scored has much as he created.

i get what calidad was saying about Redondo has well.

Ortega probably takes the cake though. other Argentine's who were undoubtedly talented but never quite made it like to the level their talented deserved are roman,Aimar and saviola as well.

I don'th think its appropiate to put players who have been successful in these lists. Especially players who will be reagarded at one of the best players in their generation. The way I read this title is that it should be for players who are really talented but never really established themselves in big teams. Good example is Quaresma.

I remember Guillem Balague identifying Barnes as the one young English talent he felt - at the time - could become a big success in La Liga.

Another story of wasted, unfulfilled potential for whatever reason (this time it seems injuries)
