Poor Potato
He really is a crap manager. He'll probably manage to wangle another PL job before long, despite having no sustained success anywhere.
Wonder if Sunderland will continue the ex-Man Utd route and go for Mark Hughes now.

Sunderland were ok last season for large spells because they had Gyan and Welbeck and Henderson but now they have Bendtner and Wes Brown.

And Bent for the first half. They have no regular source of goals now, which is a big problem.
But Bruce bought a lot of players in the summer & seemingly failed to bring in what they needed..Larsson, Westwood & Vaughan all decent signings on frees, but splashing most of their transfer money on an 18 yr old striker was a big risk (though it might pay off long term). And giving 4 year contracts to O'Shea & Brown seems kinda mental. Whoever comes in probably won't have much flexibility in transfers/wages..

Re: STEVE BRUCE
where are all the failed Arsenal and Man Utd youngsters going to go now?
it's going to be a lean Christmas in the Richardson, Brown, O'Shea, Bardsley, Larsson, Campbell and Bendtner households.
Spare a thought for Nyron Nosworthy, who literally does not know if he's coming or going.

Probably us, after all McLeish was hired on Fergie's recommendation I can see the January bid for Darren Gibson coming already

Re: STEVE BRUCE
In reality, without any refs gifting him PK's last season, Steve "racist" Bruce would've relegated Sunderland last season. The game against Wigan early this year was a fiasco. Martínez and Wigan were robbed at Sunderland.
Imagine now Kimbo bro, Sunderland hiring one of O'Neil, Sven or Rafa? The Fuck!

I forgot about McClaren, and Sunderland would be a great job for his pressure-threshold. He did OK at Middlebrough, then the pressure went up when he coached England and failed. He had nothing to lose at Twente and was successful (Dutch mates tell me that the team was the previous coach's and McClaren was told not to touch it, just to let it run) in the Eredivisie. Then once again the pressure and expectations were high at Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga and he failed miserably. I think he's remembered there as "worst coach ever" if I'm not mistaken.
Now if he becomes Sunderland's new coach, he's got nowhere to go but up. Talentless Steve Bruce has utterly ruined that team. Sunderland may not be last in the table, but they sure look like the worst team in the EPL. McClaren at Sunderland is a good fit.

You probably missed it, but McClaren was Nottingham Forest boss for about 3 months at the start of this season and it was a total disaster, so I don't think he'll be getting a Premier League job anytime soon..

I think it's more a case of getting the best out of what he has available to him. Bruce bought a lot of players in the summer, a lot of dross, but there is some quality there which he failed to get the best out of.

Maybe he's had to re-consider, given that he's been out of a job ever since & there isn't much prospect of any bigger jobs any time soon.

What bigger jobs?
The only one that may become available soon is the Spurs one - even so, you'd think Spurs would want to go more high profile than MON.

Sorry Debbie, I read that wrong
MON definitely thinks he's a lot better than he is. Sunderland is his level, but even if he was to do well, I could neverr see him getting a job at one of the elite clubs.

Re: STEVE BRUCE
I think he damaged his reputation with the way he left Villa. Still don't know all the ins & outs of why he left when he did, but even if he had legitimate cause, quitting right on the eve of a new season is as damaging as you can get to a club & other owners will have taken note.
Sunderland taking the risk now because there aren't a lot of good options at this time of the season & he's probably about as good as they can get. No chance of him being mentioned as potential Fergie successor any more, as he used to be.

Re: STEVE BRUCE
It is about as good an appointment as Sunderland could have got really though. Definitely a 6/7 manager out of 10, but compared to managers who have similar ideologies: solid at the back, simple football (Giner Scotsman anyone), his CV is far more impressive.
Shame he couldn't quite let go of his Roy Keanesque obssession with buying medicore British players at Villa. A slightly more adventurous approach could have seen them break into the top 4.
