just imagine how much better Newcastle could get if the cockney mafia get out. Curbishley needs to play this game just right, overachieve and he's likely to draw too much attention to his plump hairless young squad of foreign mercenaries and before you know it the team gets vandalised and we're Glenn Roeder mkII.

Ben Arfa is quality. Been saying it all season.
Pardew definitely favourite for the England job at the moment but I wouldn't be surprised if Steve Kean is giving the FA something to think about.

Re: Premier League 24/25/26 March 2012
Bolton Wanderers football Club:
Great win at the end of an emotional week for everyone connected to the football club.
Arsenal Football Club:
Players like Xavi, Alonso and Pirlo are obviously much better passers overall but is there anyone who is better at hitting diagonal passes (particularly lofted ones) over that distance than Alex Song ?
He is a credit to the football club.
Wigan Athletic Football Club:
Great win - they are seen as dull but they would be a loss to the Premier League IMO.
They have a very diverse transfer policy and don't spend a lot on players but they play nice football and the way the manager conducts himself is a credit to himself and the football cloob.
Newcastle United Football club:
I think back to a quote by Marcello Lippi about how little an impact managers actually make and how it is all about players.
Newcastle have a great spine - Krul, Colo , Cabaye, Tiote, Ba but the real fantasy player is local lad Ben Arthur.
Does Pardew deserve praise for steadying the ship or does he deserve stick for not playing him more earlier in the season - surely many managers could do that well with players of that quality ?
Manchester City Football club:
Barry should have conceded a pen but Crouch fouled the same player in the build up to his goal - if they win every game they are champs but Arsenal away looks really tough.
Liverpool Football club:

Is that an attempt at humour ?
He is hardly the worst Scottish manager in the EPL but then you would know that

He's made the chipped through ball into his specialty this season. Tries it once or twice every game, and it's always executed well. Messi-Cesc have used that kind of pass to good effect in La Liga as well.

Not to mention at least another dozen players in world football.

Re. Pardew, putting the quality of individuals aside what's impressive is the transition he's been involved in. He arrived at a functioning team, sold influential loudmouths, and never really faltered when integrating newcomers. Not cocking up is a valuable tendency.
Don't know if there's a fitness issue, but I assume that Santon didn't start because Pardew's trying to be safety first in terms of fielding gifted flighty types - might not be fun for Ben Arfa but (as someone who doesn't watch NC matches all that often) they do seem to have maintained that good feeling dating from their promotion, and you'd think part of that is making use of the murky depths of the squad types. Perch for the Champions League then.

If there are at least a dozen other players, you won't have a problem naming 10 of them then. Off you go.

The rest of us can just say that it was obvious that Cabaye, Demba, Papiss and Hatem had a higher ceiling than Carroll/Nolan/Barton.

Newcastle have been excellent, but before we all start giving them the credit they deserve and the countdown to the backlash begins, it is worth noting that they haven't ever been under any real pressure, they were bundled out of the cups by silly teams and every time they've caught a glimpse of 4th they have Tottenhamed their pants.
Not to undermine their season, because they have been brilliant, but Everton, Spurs and Villa achieved as much or more in recent season without drowning in so much EMB seminal fluid.
