I know he's faced some very strong defences and perhaps this is a bit of bandwagon jumping, but is there a case that Messi is burning out for this season? He's played 90 minutes in almost every single Barcelona game this season across 6 competitions. More importantly, he's been kicked 3 feet in the air several times in most of those games. I know it's highly unlikely that he'll do this, but Guardiola should consider giving him a game or two's rest (with the League seemingly over) and save him for the Copa final.
I don't agree with the Sky pundits that he was average over the 2 legs. In fact I think he played quite well. But he wasn't at his mesmerising best.

It wouldnt be impossible. You see it more often that a team get's the biggest trophy when the team is already in general decline. If they win, we can only hope Spurs get's 4th place afterall.
However, Mourinho gifting the CL to Chelsea indirectly would also be poetic in a way.

Even that wouldn't be true. Petr Cech had 2 great performances over the tie - replay shows he got a fingertip to the Messi shot that hit the post.
In terms of the team, a greater defensive performance would have been the 0-0 in the Camp Nou in 08-09, or the 1-1 in the second leg.
In terms of entertainment, the 4-2 with Barcelona and 4-4 with Liverpool were more entertaining games.
Either way, Redknapp is talking cojones.

Terry would have been better off trying to justify his actions by saying "With Pique going to hospital I got sent off to go give Shakira some support" rather than whatever his excuse was about changing direction.

I remember how many were going on about the 'inevitable' CL final Clasico ever since the knock-out stages started, that sentiment getting even stronger before the semis.
Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if both Spanish giants would miss the final.

Messi is the best player in the world and on form he is unplayable. But he is not unpredictable, he does not have that genius of doing the unspeakable, the totally crazy thing nobody expects like Ronaldinho and others did and do. It's just that he is so good at what he does, especially in the Barcelona context, that he can't be stopped (without a foul) regardless. But a creative genius like Ronaldinho at his best was he is not.
NOT.A.GENIUS.

Mind boggles. How is he even allowed to take them anymore?
No idea. One thing for sure if he was German he would have his citizenship revoked for that kind of record.
If only that. Fey would have personally put a star on him and put him in the oven.

Yeah they weren't really good ones but over the 2 legs, all the shots on the woodwork, and the missed penalty. Gutting.
It's sickening to think that if Madrid win tomorrow, which they probably will, they'll have a walkover in the final
I was so wrong on this Chelsea side. Very impressive performance from them and fully deserved when you consider they were 10 men for so long and were behind with 2 goals and still got a draw. A real shame that they have lost so many players for the final.
I have a feeling we will go out tomorrow against Bayern but as long as Barcelona isn't in the final I'm well happy with a Bayern vs Chelsea final since I want both teams to win. Bayern, even if I hate them, need this title to show that they and German football is strong and improving and also give them a boost in reputation that they actually merit. I liked to hate them in the old days more when they were always a side to be feared. The only reason I can think of as to why they won't make it is that I can't recall a side that managed to reach the final on their own soil. I suppose there will be a first time for everything, except retaining the Champions League.
Chelsea is really for me the most dangerous team of the 3 left because they almost have the fairy tale momentum of Liverpool 2005 going for them so whether it will be Real Madrid or Bayern I think Chelsea will pop up with something unexpected. Also I think they deserve it after going for it after all these years.
Great birthday week for me
Congrats S4P
P.S. I wish Real Madrid could start playing these catenaccio games and win. Much better than overrated goalfests.

Controlled rage to annihilate Chelsea in a historic football result 7-1.

PuroReturns wrote:Pep always said that a football team can win consistently for only three seasons. Three straight Ligas, 2 CL's (could've easily been three as well) plus all the other trophies won in that span.
This season number four was a very tall order for them. First they were emotionally spent and then physically.
PuroReturns wrote:Predictably the Spanish language commentators from ESPN Deportes and FOX Deportes are drilling Chelsea calling them "equipo ratonero" (a mousy team - as in little team that parks the bus and prays).
FFS! they're not taking into consideration that Barcelona are a spent force both mentally and physically.
Credit to Chelsea for taking their only chances really well just like Once Caldas years ago.
The commentators just said "Chelsea es una basura!"
FFS! they'd better recognize soon that the best teams do not always win.
