In league 2, and from what i've heard anything less than promotion would've been a failure.

Didn't he inherit them when they were in a real mess and do pretty well until his resignation. Still got much to prove, but certainly didn't fail there.

It seems to me he's done with Swindon in league 2 what Roy Keane did with Sunderland in the championship.
But if you think he's proven and will be a success we'll wait and see.

Ok.
Do you think premier league clubs would be wise to appoint managers for getting promoted from league 2?
Do you think Di Canio is not a silly little wannabe hard man?

He did well at Swindon but yes they had big money comparative to most teams down there (and he quit when the money disappeared). hard to know if he's a good manager yet.

Absolutely not!

No, but only because I do think he's a silly little wannabe hard man. Never forgave that fascist salute - moron!
Bet you didn't see that coming!

I'm not saying he's definitely good... But if promotion was the goal he was on course. I'm just interested to see how his approach goes down with some of the more arrogant players.

A few die-hard Sunderland supporters I know are threatening not to renew their season tickets if di Canio is appointed, because of his fascist views.

Puro wrote:The best thing for football would be the relegation of Fat Sam, Tony "I know fuck all about the game" Pulis, and Harry "the foreigners found me out a long time ago, but I've got friends in the media so my ass is safe from criticism" Redknapp.
Two out of three ain't bad, but this season only Redknapp may be it. What a blessing for English football is all three cocksuckers disappear from the EPL. Castle Grayskull will rescue -with their refs awarding penalties and what not- Fat Sam and Pulis if their teams are feeling the heat.
Agree re Pulis/Sam. For his faults with the chumming up to the media and generally being a self serving greedy bastard, Redknapp is still a very good manager, albeit not a great one. His teams have always entertained and he's an asset to the Premier League particularly during the transfer window with his interviews out of his car window and last minute deals.
It's a shame neither Mcdermott or Adkins will still be in the Premier League this season. Both did terrific jobs at Reading and Southampton given their resources. Both advocate modern, stylish football. Therein lies part of the problem - neither given the time to build something long term, ditched because they were unfashionable names

Do they tell you stories that start with "mag at work said...", or "mag in the pub reckons...", or "mag on the bus thinks...", or "mag on a horse told me..."?
Mackems are brilliant, every single one has a friend that has done building work at Alan Shearer's house and they all have a story about how he insists they call him Mr Shearer, he won't let them use his toilet, they won't let them talk to his wife, etc etc.

Kimbo, one of them is a prolific football writer with a conscience. He's the one who wrote about Dave Whelan's behaviour over Norman Deeley. He is a genuine football supporter and Sunderland fan for many years. I have known and worked with him for many years on injustice issues too. He's already penned his resignation letter to SAFC over di Canio's fascist views being against Sunderland's beliefs and his too and he is not alone.

He lives in Yorkshire but goes to SoL regularly and if on London for work goes to see Sunderland if they are playing there. Before SoL he was a regular at Roker Park. Basically he's a genuine person.
He mustn't be local.

These aren't just fair-weather ones; they are long-term active ones. If they don't care they should, especially as it is a huge risk anyway. Why alienate supporters with an untried fascist git? They celebrate Nelson Mandela one day and appoint a fascist the next!

I do like that they've appointed a fascist 2 days after "Nelson Mandela day".

Obviously they should care. I'm just sure they won't. Didn't know Sunderland had David Milliband on the board. Didn't realise EMP was his mate either.

David Milliband is no mate of mine. Not forgiven his New Labour crap. My friend is someone who has written several books about football, including one about the only person to have captained Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough, Stan Anderson. How dare you suggest that my standards are so low as to have a Milliband as a friend!
