Re: CL 3rd Qualifying Round
PSG may be in pot 3, because they are ranked #24 (Leverkusen is ranked #28), so if one or more clubs ranked higher than them miss the CL this season, which is very likely (e.g Inter), they'll be in pot 3, just.
Ajax and Man City will be in Pot 4.
Dortmund have much more reason to complain than Leverkusen to be honest. Made the CL final last season, ranked #18 and still in pot 3, just. If they were ranked just a bit higher, they would have made pot 2.

Re: CL 3rd Qualifying Round
Yeah that is messed up too... won the Bundesliga twice in a row, made it to the final last year... certainly achieved more for themselves than most of the Pot 2 teams.

Re: CL 3rd Qualifying Round
Yeah, well, domestic performance is irrelevant for the UEFA team ranking, only European performance.
But if Dortmund and Leverkusen continue to qualify for the European competitions and continue to do well, they'll climb up that ranking in no time.
Leverkusen shot themselves in the foot by losing to Benfica last season (or rather not avoiding them by losing their EL group). It's considerably easier to gain coefficient points in the EL than CL.

I'm not sure the table you posted is the right one. You want the 2013 ranking: kassiesa.home.xs4all.nl/bert/uefa/data/method4/trank2013.htmlblutgraetsche wrote:PSG may be in pot 3, because they are ranked #24 (Leverkusen is ranked #28), so if one or more clubs ranked higher than them miss the CL this season, which is very likely (e.g Inter), they'll be in pot 3, just.

Re: CL 3rd Qualifying Round
You're right debbie, the last season's ranking is the correct one for the seeding of this season:
http://kassiesa.home.xs4all.nl/bert/uefa/data/method4/trank2013.html
Leverkusen being ranked #42 have even less to complain then.

Re: CL 3rd Qualifying Round
The question now is if Schalke get a bye or if they have to play PAOK Saloniki instead, Huub Stevens' new club that was knocked out by Metalist in the earlier CL qualification stage.Xavier wrote:Thought that domestic league placement played a role as well.... anyway

Re: CL 3rd Qualifying Round
Leverkusen have a decent chance of being in pot 3. they just need one of Razgrad/Sociedad/Fenerbahce/Pacos de Ferreira to win their qualifier and that'll guarantee 8 teams ranked below them
there's a table at the bottom here which shows what the pots will be if all the highest seeds win the qualifiers:

Re: CL 3rd Qualifying Round
Pot 3 or pot 4 doesn't make much of a difference though. A lot depends on luck. I remember how Dortmund had a relatively easy group in one of their first CL campaigns under Klopp despite being seeded much lower than Bayern, who ended up in the 'group of death' with Napoli, City and Villareal. Dortmund bottled their group, while Bayern won theirs.
Last season, Dortmund was in the group of death themselves which they won convincingly.
So neither an 'easy' group nor a tough one are reliable indicators for a successful campaign. I think that Leverkusen may actually do better in a tough group, when they are not expected to win and can counter the crap out of "big name" teams with their talented and pacy attacking players.

If they appeal to CAS, the suspension gets suspended until the hearingblutgraetsche wrote:The question now is if Schalke get a bye or if they have to play PAOK Saloniki instead, Huub Stevens' new club that was knocked out by Metalist in the earlier CL qualification stage.Xavier wrote:Thought that domestic league placement played a role as well.... anyway

It happened to Fenerbahce (who were suspended):
http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/european/champions-league-arsenals-opponents-fenerbahce-face-european-expulsion-8755315.html
Stupidly the hearing with CAS is not until the day after the match with Arsenal. So arsenal could lose and still go through potentially.

Re: CL 3rd Qualifying Round
PAOK it is then, as UEFA has ruled:
http://www.sportal.de/uefa-legt-fest-schalke-spielt-nun-gegen-paok-saloniki-1-2013081429288600000
So Schalke will meet the team that is coached by their former manager Huub Stevens who was sacked not too long ago. Some pretty interesting side story there.

Good news for Milan, Bakkali didnt make it.
This could be one tasty match now, cause it's more even. I wonder if those hyped PSV youngsters can handle their own against such an untalented but very mature side.
Maher, Depay and Rekik are the ones you like to watch.
