I rate him as well. I think him and his agents are really difficult to deal with though. I also don't think he is a DM, he seems more of box to box for me. In fairness I would definitely have him at Everton ahead of James McCarthy. McCarthy defensive game and engine is very good, but someone like Diame would suit Barry nicely as well.

I am still not sure what to think of Bruce as a manager, but definitely he knows how to spot what kind of player he does need and find someone fitting it on the market. Snodgrass should be in the team ahead of Quinn when coming back. Dawson looks like a good fit for partnership with more mobile Curtis Davies. Diame mixes well with Huddlestone and Livermore. And Andrew Robertson seems a like a decent full back. But not sure if team like Hull CIty can get away with playing two attacking full backs like him and Elmohamady. They are already risking it playing with two strikers, even if one of them (usually Jelavic) seems to have some defensive responsibilities.

Also, what happened with Bruce playing 3-5-2? He actually was the only Premier League manager who seemd to know how to use it properly on permanent basis.

Newcastle on the other side still didn't replace Cabaye properly, way too much is expected from Tiote and Colback isn't much of the help. I am not completely familiar with their recent transfers, so maybe there is someone on the bench/missing for it. For sure Cabella is more attacking minded player, right?

Nice to see Papiss Cisse scoring again, not impressed by Riviere, don't think playing as a lone striker suits him.

Nope, have to admit I got them very wrong in my pre season predictions. They did lose a lot of big players but I didn't consider how bad some of the sides are in this league - there's still a good 6-8 teams far worse then Saints.

Amazed no one has snapped Schneiderlin up, I know Spurs tried, he's class.

I'll be surprised if we win today.

We are already playing in such a disjointed manner so having the dreaded Lucas-Gerrard combination and bringing in the useless Borini doesn't look very inspiring.

We didn't really have much choice though - it's stupid playing Lallana when he's not fit, Coutinho has been dreadful and still no Allen or Sturridge.

By snapping up, you mean paying 27mill for him? If Liverpool hadnt already paid them 50million for three players they may have sold him. In the end they didnt need to. Perhaps next season. I agree though, he is class. Would have been perfect for Arsenal in particular, but obviously not at that fee they were touting as minimum.

Stinger, agree with you. Diame is a box to box type. Everton would have been great destination for him, as wasnt he at Wigan under Martinez?

    Boring 2nd half

Villa started well and made life difficult for us for most of the 1st half but a moment of class from Welbeck and Ozil changed the game in our favour. We suddenly started to pass the ball better and with purpose. Villa completely lost it in the space of 5 minutes.

I hope the Welbeck-Ozil link up is a sign of things to come

Some people think De Jong was the Cabaye replacement, which doesn't make much sense to me. He's a crock anyway, it's no wonder we signed Ajax's captain for £6m with no competition. The other one is Ferreyra on loan who may aswell go home, he seemed to be our main striker signing but Pardew isn't going to play him for some reason, you have to remember he thought Tevez and Mascherano weren't good enough for West Ham. Riviere just looks like a championship standard runner, and Cabella is decent technically but is nowhere near Ben Arfa, he has the same weaknesses as Ben Arfa defensively though which I find amusing seeing as that is the bullshit excuse given for ostracising him.

It doesn't really matter how good the signings are though, ape pundits like Carragher seem to think the answer is to give Pardew and co a new squad to ruin.

Yes, I think he was the one who bought him from. Actually I didn't know Diame started his professional career in Spain.

Also a big fan of Scheiderlin (looking at Southampton I also rate more Cork than Wanyama), but to play alongside Ramsey I think Arsenal should look for a different kind of DM. Someone who's more mobile version of Arteta and Scheiderlin is more of Flamini type (just much better). Based on players I know well I would see someone like Bruno Soriano fitting well for Arsenal, just they would hope to get someone younger and probably better too.

You signed him for free only because he had a huge wage and signing on fee expectations which put other team off. I guess 3.5mil sell clause was another of his demands.

As predicted an absolutely stinking half. We are laughable at the moment. Fuck knows what Borini does for us, pointless player. Belongs at Sunderland who would have paid 14 mil for him.

Defence is an abomination and Gerrard has to be dropped soon - he's knackered.

If we can salvage a draw it will be a good result right now.

Its a rough match yes, cockneys vs scousers the hardest people of Britain against eachother, what did you expect.

Sam will fuck it up. 2-0 early lead, deep down he want to defend for 80min then. And then fucks it up.
