Who's been your most disappionting player this month?
Guest- Guest
I'm going with Pennant...He might put a lot of crosses in, but the majority of them are shocking. He has pace, but he doesn't seem to be an intelligent player at all. I'm also disappointed in how many starts he's had! we have great balance with Gerrard on the right, so why settle with a player who isn't half as good as him?

Any other month, Rooney.
However he's lucky Richardson and O'Shea are picking up wages.

Keane's been off-colour
Chimbonda is not a £5m Full-Back.
Jenas has had an up & down time.
Davenport should go back to the Championship - and Tainio is escaping criticism because he "gives his all".

He got an assist against Maccabi and one last night, but he's so poor for the amount of time he gets on the ball. So, so wasteful.
I think fans are way too harsh on Aurelio though. Has he ever played leftback when he's had proper protection infront of him? Gerrard and Garcia aren't exactly going to double up with him defensively.
He's been really positive going forward aswell, as we saw last night. He was Man of the Match along with Crouch IMHO. He just needs that period of adaption - both to the new league but more importantly to our defensive unit.
Pennant's just been terrible though. Yes, he needs time, but when he's getting that much of the ball I don't think it's wrong to expect a little more.

He was quality Luis. Especially going forward. Hell of a cross for the first goal and it wasn't his only one of the night.
There's been a few disappointments of the season thusfar. Gerrard and Rooney, given what is expected of them, surely have to be towards the top of any list.

I'm gonna have to say Shevchenko for this month. Played every game this month and hasn't ever really looked like finding the net, in a month where we've won every game (so far) and Drogba has been finding the back of the net a hell of a lot.
Goals will come from Sheva, but he's probably been the most ineffective of our usual starting 11

Great thread, also for European teams.
Romagnoli. He was promising so much in preseason, and has been just average.

Bellamy hasn't been hugely disappionting, but I have to admit, I expected more from him (goal wise) He has had 3 or 4 easy chances to score in th games he's played, and I would expect him to have scored at least one of them
Aurelio has been alright, but defensivly, he hasn't looked brilliant. It's obvious to everyone how sweat his passing is, but he's been a bit shakey.

Totally agree 'ih8gerrard'. I don't doubt Sheva's talents or his commitment for a second, I just think that in a month where we've won 4/4 (or it might be 5/5 for this month, I can't honestly remember), Sheva has been arguably the most ineffective.
But all the time we're winning, it's not a problem (though it may become a problem if we start to no longer win), so I'm happy for him to stay in the team and keep on getting more EPL experience.
If anything, I wouldn't drop him 'cause of Drogba. I know what people say about Drogba ("He can play as a lone striker because he's so big quick and powerful"), but for me, Drogba is 10x more likely to hurt a team when he plays with another player. Last season (and the season before), Droggy's aim was more or less just to hold the ball up for Lampard. Then when we started to play Crespo-Drogba, the Drog became 10x better and started to score more goals. If we drop Sheva, I'm worried Drogba will become less effective.

yup droggers is the best battering ram but he is a better forward when he isnt alone up front.
I think shevvers will come good and when he does it will be goals galore!

Kalou can play up there, although I think Jose at the moment prefers him to play wide. Can beat players for fun and very quick.
And I believe Obi Mikel could do a job in a forward type role (though not quite the main striker)
Arjen Robben can also act as a forward. We've loaned out Crespo and sold Carlton Cole though.

shevchenko's problem is that chelsea just play very little football... the man relies on midfielders picking out and spotting his world class movement... with chelsea's battering ram system he will never be a successih8gerrard wrote:shevvers, he isnt looking like the player he was, surely it will come?? you cant just suddenly become useless can you>>??? surely not if you were top class before... sort it out andre!

i completey forgot about kalou and JOM.

seva's problem is that he is in decline like Ruud he can still get the business done but he struggles to have the ame impact on a game even at Milan the last couple of seasons, this coupled with the premiership game that he has to get used to.
However a Sheva in his prime would take no time to adjust

Hard to say because so many guys are underperforming. Overall, in terms of what was expected and what he's produced, it'll probably be Messi, although again, only because of how much was expected from him.
But I think last night's goal will be a turning point.

or at least you'l need him, dinho, and co to step up now Eto'o is out. Curious that when Messi starts and Guily comes in as a sub he usually performs and viceversa.
Anyway, since when Barça plays in the EPL?

Haha I just posted here anyway because it would be a waste of board space to start an identical thread on the European Leagues board.
As for the substitute effect of Messi and Giuly, it's definitely interesting, and the only explanation I can think of is they are both tricky players, and coming on against tired defenders really makes a difference.
