Vieri future still unclear
Christian Vieri’s Sampdoria future remains in doubt after planned crisis talks between the two parties failed to take place on Wednesday.
Vieri was expected to meet with director general Beppe Marotta in Genoa this morning, but whispers suggest that has not happened.
Marotta has now left for Milan where unconfirmed reports suggest he could meet the striker to resolve the issue once and for all.
Doria are still waiting to hear whether Vieri wants to continue his career or opt to quit the game amidst stories linking him with a TV reality show.
The striker supposedly spoke to Marotta on the phone over the weekend and reassured him that he would honour his newly-signed contract with Doria after almost making a full recovery from knee surgery.
But Marotta, who was instrumental in his July free capture, has admitted that the ball is in Bobo’s court.
“Christian wants to join the team to train for the new season and Sampdoria are available for that to happen,” said Marotta on Tuesday.
“He is a champion and we believe ha can still add value to the team, we all hope he will do well.
“We must respect the man and the football player, though. We can’t forget he is a 33-year-old lad who has been through some difficult moments.”
The much-travelled striker has appeared for Torino, Pisa, Ravenna, Venezia, Atalanta, Juventus, Atletico Madrid, Lazio, Inter and Milan in his career.
He returned to Italian football this summer after an injury-hit six-month spell in France with Monaco.
