From England's perspective, Croatia away will be very tough and I won't be surprised if we don't win, but Macedonia at home should be a fairly comfortable win, even if the performance isn't great.

Oh great international break :roll:/Bent replaces Johnson

So, just when the majority of teams are starting to settle again after a hectic summer, we have our 2nd international breal, having played just 7 games this season. Pretty frustrating eh?

So who's going to play the holding role?
Parker or Carrick.
Parker or Carrick.

Interesting comments on MUTV last night, whilst giving praise to Parker. Aparently Sven did comment the reason he wasn't picked was that he gives the ball away to much.

Not so mmuch his ball retention - he's just way too rash. The closest thing we have to Hargreaves (i.e. a midfield terrier who makes great interceptions, tackles cleanly and does the simple things well and efficiently) is Hayden Mullins at West Ham.
I'd rather have Carrick doing the Holding role by himself rather than Parker.

What's the latest on J.Cole?

Carrick and Lampard though, think it would work?
Think it would be fine against Macedonia, not so sure against Croatia away where they may get in amongst us.

Not just he gives it away to much, but so many touches, some players control it pass all in one move, two touches max, he takes 6-7 touches to control the ball and pass it on. Top quality players would be to much for him. But he would do ok v these teams england are playing so it doesnt really matter, but mclaren will pick carrick

You're right - We'll get away with that vs. Macedonia, but not in Croatia.Parks Lives wrote:TeamSpirit™ wrote:

I'd rather have Carrick & Butt/Mullins or even Jenas than Lampard at the moment if it's a tough trip to Croatia.

Shame for the under 21's though.
Would be good to see off Germany in the playoff.

Johnson has been in great form, shame he couldnt make it.
Doesnt matter anyway, as long as we've super crouch.

Unfortunately, Helmes is injured. The U21 Mannschaft will miss him badly. Hope Eilts will not have to cope with more injuries this week.

Haha, I'd be alot happier if Darren Bent was playing, but he's needed in the main squad.

Like blut said, we're missing Patrick Helmes because of an injury and Piotr Trochowski (Axeslammer's favourite German footballer these days, probably also the only one he rates at all... ) who has to replace Borowski in the main squad. I'm pretty optimistic though...Parks Lives wrote:chrissicross wrote:So dear Englanders, are you already afraid of Friday? No worry, we'll make it short and painless for you...

Considering it's a choice between a central midfielder and a very average player suited to the premiership but little else, it'll be a crime if Carrick doesn't start.
Croatia is a slightly different kettle of fish. They played 5-3-2 under their old coach, I've no idea if they still do that now, but do you think that McLaren could opt to do the same?
- - - - - - - - Robinson
- - Ferdinand - Terry - Ledley
Neville - - - - Carrick - - - - Cole
- - - Gerrard - - - - - Lampard
- - - - - - Crouch - Rooney
Could work if Ferdinand or King pushed into midfield when in possession.

If we play 3-5-2 I'd prefer to see Gerrard wide right, Parker backing up Carrick and Lampard behind the strikers. Gerrard, Carrick and Lampard together could be vulnerable - Parker is easily good enough for low level internationals, and decent backup for when Hargreaves returns.
Also if Rooney and Crouch play together who leads the line? Crouch is too lightweight and Rooney will constantly run back.

Back in light training I believe. Just nursing the last wounds of the injury. Should be back for Reading I hope (whether he plays or not is a different matter)

I know it makes little difference in terms of how he's judged nowadays, but Lamps has had 3 excellent performances for Chelsea so far this season.
The problem is England are designed differently to Chelsea.

S4P,
no offense but I think Lampard is good but only in a system.
England cant provide that b/c we dont have any classic DMC.
