One for Kimbo
Newcastle captain Scott Parker has admitted that Newcastle are in a relegation fight, so at last comes a voice of reason which cuts through the delusion that Newcastle can hope to be a top-notch premiership team this season.

Re: One for Kimbo
My view of Scott Parker as a player has changed though this season. His passing is far crisper and better than given credit for. He's a quality player.
Newcastle shouldnt be struggling with the likes of Emre, Parker, Duff, Martins, N'Zogbia, Solano, Taylor in the side
but its basically because their defence is cr@p isnt it?

They lack a solid back 4, and at the moment are short up front, im guessing they are waiting on Owen, but they will also need to find somebody to partner him upfront as hes not a target man and needs good service.

Re: One for Kimbo
With the squad they got they should be aiming for a top 6 finish but instead it is a relegation battle.
I never understood why they almost never spent anything to strengthen the defence.

Need 3 defenders (probably do with just 2) and still need another striker, Ameobi isn't nearly good enough.

Re: One for Kimbo
Newcastle have needed individual players forever - that won't solve the problem.
I've always said that what's really needed was for a manager to come in and build a project and impose his style at the club. Keegan and Sir Bobby both did that to a certain extent, but Sounness just didn't have a clue, and watching the movement and general play of the team under Roeder, I doubt it's going to happen under him. till if Newcastle can get a respectable finish this year and Sheperd uses his brains to keep him on for another season, then we may see some change.
Lots of if's in there though, first games like Charlton need to be won.

Based on Roeders amazing statistical record as manager, Newcastle should be playing in the Championship this season, an amazing feat with the players they have at their disposal!

Re: One for Kimbo
I look forward to my team taking Newcastle's place come the end of the season.
They're in the shit - never been able to defend, now they can't attack either. Roeder is a sacking waiting to happen. If they could just get a competent manager in, and give him three seasons to actually build a proper squad, and not sack him due to the lack of CL qualification, then maybe they'd get somewhere. Repeatedly sacking managers almost invariably results in relegation.

They need to sack him sooner rather than later, its not as if Sheppherd is overt to sacking either...

Re: One for Kimbo
What pisses me off is that they're always blaming the size of our squad. We would be albe to afford a bigger squad if you didn't pay such ridiculous wages!!! Owen 80k, Dyer 80k, Emre 60k, Duff 60k. I wouldn't be upset to see any of them leave, worst value for money ever.
The only positive so far this season is that the NATIONAL media is finally realising that Freddy's a leach. The pressure being put on the board will hopefully force the Halls(who want out) to do something, either sell up or replace Freddy.
The best article i've read on the subject, by Henry Winter.

Re: One for Kimbo
The size of the squad isn't even a problem though Kimbo - I'd say that you have a good squad size compared to most EPL teams - most other teams are getting into their youth players beyond the first two or three subs.
The problem is the way you play, its pathetic to say you don't have the quality because you do!
Most of the players at your club have at some point in their carerr played much better football so its obvious Roeder is getting nowhere near the best out of them - the only exception to this is the Zog maybe - everyone else is severely underachieving - compare that to Villa and Pompey...

Good news.
Roeder: "Matthew Upson is not a player we are interested in."

So was Woodgate, so was Campbell. If he's available we SHOULD be in there. I think he's a really good player and we were fools not to buy him when he left Arsenal, Robson was apparently interested but Fat Freddy knew better.

We'll probably play a one legged Sibierski upfront. Hopefully Luque will play though. It's impossible for me to predict what team Roeder will put out, he always shocks me.BilalShah wrote:@Kimbo

Surely there are better defenders around though. I mean if you've got the £5million odd they're likely to ask for (unless he's out-of-contract?) then why not look at someone like Nelsen, Neill or Mellberg? Whether or not they're attainable or not is difficult to say, but - despite my mocking - you're still a bigger club than Blackburn or Villa, even if neither would be looking to sell the player could be interested.
I don't know why, if you've got the money, you don't go in for one of them or someone like Distin or Ben Haim?
