Totti accuses derby ref Monday 11 December, 2006

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Francesco Totti has accused referee Roberto Rosetti of failing to make the grade in last night’s 3-0 derby defeat.

“He wasn’t up to the task,” slammed the Roma captain. “I wouldn’t say he was biased in favour of Lazio, but looking at the game on the whole…”

Totti was a major injury doubt for this clash due to an ankle problem, but recovered in time to start and was involved in a scuffle with Luciano Zauri.

“The Lazio players wanted me to be sent off, but I showed them the giant cut I’ve got on my thigh from Zauri’s studs. The referees won’t give me any more protection and never will, but I’m used to that now.”

The result may have taken the Giallorossi out of the Scudetto race and lifted Lazio to fifth place, but Er Pupone still managed to get a verbal jab in at his rivals.

“Of course I’m disappointed to lose, especially as we didn’t play to our usual standards. Unlike other clubs, we continue to aim high and we can fight back, even though seven points from Inter are a mountain to climb. We’ll focus on beating Palermo next, as that would be important to pull away from the third placed team.”

Amantino Mancini agreed that the title race was not over, as the season is only 15 weeks old and the Christmas break is approaching.

“We felt the tension of the occasion and our desire to over-do it worked against us,” said the Brazilian of this setback.

“This team is aware of its strength and quality, so the defeat will give us even more of a push to go all the way and aim for the Scudetto. Inter are doing very well, but we can catch them and must also focus on the Champions League.”

Sorry... I can't hear you both over the passion of the crowd at Chelsea yesterday.

I thought I heard something just then...but it turned out to be Richard Keys salvating over a shit game with 15 minutes of entertainment.

I thought the quality was decent, from Lazio anyway, Roma on the other hand were abismal, their passing was definately premier league standard.

Roma are incredibly unpredicatable, sometimes they look amazing, other times they look shocking

Roma are a decent side, but a little overated maybe. Certainly not good enough to win the league

Obi, you deserved the victory based on your second half performance but they were all over u in the first and were extremely unlucky to be 1-0 down at HT( a superb goal by ledesma though)

The Rome derby was quite good...certainly high on quality. Prior to the Ledesma goal Exclamation I thought Roma were the better side.

Those who said it was poor really don't know what they are talking about. I don't need to qualify that further.

    Congrats Obispo (Snowbispo).

It's bitterness from the EPL fans Forza. See, they had another hugely disappointing "big game" yesterday, saved only by a long-distance strike.

Nothing quite like watching Roma be dismantled. 'Specially when it's by Lazio Very Happy

    Yes, it really is.

The Rome derby of yesterday should be requisite viewing for coaches who strive to specialize in soaking pressure, patiently biding their time and then coming out with a magnificent counter-strike.

It was really efficient stuff from Lazio. Why didn't Doni get a red card?

Because Roma get ref-favouritism Wink I don't know.. I'm inclined to agree with Football Italia's view that the fact the ball was cleared off the line by Panucci means that Doni wasn't last man.

I'd be less forgiving, had we not battered them.

Ha ha ha, how dare anyone suggest the Serie A might be low on quality lol!

Obviously bitterness, because it really means so much to me to prove the EPL is better than Serie A Doh

Tinseldum is right, the snobbery is quite amusing; it as though Serie A serves up a sumptious feast of football, and anyone who disagrees is clearly wrong...

bunch of arse- it was a turgid game, Ledesma's goal apart. And yes, Chelsea Arsenal was better in my own, bitterfree opinion Ale

A Rome derby (as passionate as any derby in the civilised world it seems) is hardly going to give you the best example of quality passing football.

Thing is most Serie A teams will give you some quality passing (possibly not Cagliari and Empoli).

Can't say that for the Prem.
