QF Copa del Rey Empty QF Copa del Rey

Post by toon h Wed Jan 31, 2007 12:02 pm

tonight the quarter final stage for the Copa del Rey gets underway. Real Madrid have been unlucky not to get here, and Valencia had been thoroughly outplayed by Getafe in the previous round. Favourites must be Barcelona and Sevilla even if there are some proper cup teams lining up to meet them:

Zaragoza is the "black beast" or "Angstgegner" of the azulgrana, having knocked them out at this stage in the previous two seasons and losing finalists last year.
Betis won the cup two seasons ago and are now lining up to eliminate their city rivals Sevilla, who are riding high in the league, as opposed to the Béticos, who can now have one over them and renew one of the fiercest football rivalries in the world.

    the games:

Getafe - Osasuna (20:00h local time)
    Deportivo - Valladolid (20:00h)
    Barcelona - Zaragoza (22:00h)
    Sevilla - Betis (21:00h Thursday)

these are games played in home and away rounds, btw.
The second leg will be at the end of the month, right squeezed inbetween the Liverpool games for Barça.

    betting odds:

    FC Barcelona 2.25
    FC Sevilla 3.65
    Real Zaragoza 7.00
    Deportivo La Coruna 13.00
    Getafe 13.00
    Osasuna 15.00
    Betis 19.00
    Valladolid 31.00

I wouldn't bet on Sevilla, Barcelona or Valladolid with these odds.

    update:

    Depor 1 - Valladolid 1

    Getafe 3 - Osasuna 0

Getafe will practically seal their place in the semis if they can manage to keep a clean sheet. Goals from Guiza (10'), Alexis (38') and Maris (62').

What do you guys think of this Alexis? Great prospect it seems and destined for greater things.

Valladolid look to get an excellent result. Pablo Alvarez managed to equal the score on the night though for Depor.

His buyout clause is only 7 m. euro or something like that. I'd love to have him at Real Madrid next season, we need to stop buying defenders from Italy!

    so far, TM, so far...

    Barcelona line up with:

    Jorquera,
    Oleguer, Puyol, Márquez & Zambrotta
    Xavi, Edmílson & Deco
    Iniesta, Ronaldinho & Saviola

    against Zaragoza's:

César; Diogo, Sergio F., G. Milito, Juanfran; Piqué, Zapater; D'Alessandro, Oscar, S. García; D. Milito

I think Aimar was injured. Nice to see Diogo back after the 5 match ban.

    final scores:

    Getafe 3 - Osasuna 0
    Depor 4 - Valladolid 1

a couple of late strikes must surely seal the round for Depor. Getafe seem to have 1,5 legs in the semis...

I think Getafe are looking very good for the Cup this year, with a good defence you'll always do well in knockout competitions.

I think Alexis is Spanish, no?

Yeah, quality ok Showing Txiki what he thinks of Ustari rumours

(though no doubt in the 2nd leg he'll make a mistake...he makes one every 2 or 3 games on average, but is solid the rest of the time).

Zaragoza getting into the game now, shot off the post. We don't have any good final balls, despite our possession in the last third of the pitch.
