The SC Heerenveen striker scored his 22nd league goal of the season in the match v FC Groningen. This means he takes the lead in the ranking (name / goals / multiplier for quality of league / points):

    1. Afonso Alves / 22 / 1.5 / 33
    2. Kanoute / 16 / 2 / 32
    3. Drogba / 15 / 2 / 32

By the way Afonso Alves's Eredivisie goal/match ratio is better than Romario's or Ronaldo's.

    1. Afonso Alves 23 matches 22 goals 0.96
    2. Ronaldo 44 matches 42 goals 0.95
    3. Romario 109 matches 98 goals 0.90

The magical coefficient system. The only reason why the Dutch ever complain about anything in Europe.

It's 2 for Serie A, LaLiga, EPL, Bundesliga & Ligue1. It's 1 1/5 for Portugal, Scotland, Holland, Austria etc. it's 1 for Latvia, Luxembourg, Estonia, etc.

They started this after lesser known Golden Boot winners from the Turkish & Romanian league.

Thinks it's quite fair at the moment. The Golden Boot is won by players from top leagues now, in other leagues players need to come up with 35-40 goals to stand a chance, which is fair.

    overview winners.

Just had a look on Youtube for him 'cos I haven't seen any Heerenveen this year.

His freekick's look fantastic! He isn't like Riise where he skies 200 before he gets one right, is he?

Don't think so (not entirely sure I only see full Heerenveen matches when they play Feyenoord). Heerenveen has other players well capable of taking decent freekicks. Alves is mainly the man for the long distance ones.

Hard to believe this small club in Friesland has in recent years unearthed gems like Van Nistelrooy, Huntelaar and now Alves Yikes

A big kudos to Riemer & Annie for their scouting talent Ale

Told you so. Rolling Eyes Razz

Any way, more importantly it isn't just some highlight reel. He does n o t waste set pieces. His conversion rate must be near 50%. No shit. Very high.
Not to mention being able to score form all over the pitch in all different styles etc.

    Koevermans praising Alves.

Also, finally a different Dutch reaction to the typical "you can't say that" or ""you're arrogant.

Koevermans really is an extremely nice lad.
But I still think if Koevermans had played all matches he wouldnt be that far behind.

Agree. But Afonso Alves is something else, such confidence such class. You never doubt that he won't be able to get a you a goal a game.

    Nationalise this guy!

EDIT: BTW the Lai Ping gal who won the ping pong event yesterday was nationalised by dear Rita. Who then went on t say that she never nationalised someone before. And claimed football wasn´t important enough among many excuses.
Ms Ping still can't speak Dutch BTW.
