Pires shouldn't moan. Lots of the highlitghts of his carreer wouldn't have been possible without Wenger.

Who else was there to take off None of the back four, no Gilberto, Not Henry, cant remember the rest of the players. Maybe Hleb/Reyes if they we're playing.

So who is the unnamed player who Pires thinks should have been subbed?

It's got to be Reyes, i remember watching the game and wondering why he was still on the pitch. He was poor.

I don't remember him being on the pitch. Are you sure he played?

Pires came off in the 18th minute, surely no one was having that bad a game at that time.

Reyes came on after 85 minutes! (shouldn't have come on at all, supersub Van Persie was on the bench too, was the only player capable of & believing in a turn around).
It's either Hleb or Freddy, he means.

I suppose he was probably talking about Ljungberg then.

but that would have been stupid. He was the only player causing us problems.. I say he should have taken Hleb off..

Well, if anyone it should have been Eboue (the diving little turd), but you never take off a defender when you've just had your keeper sent off.

Without Eboue they wouldn't have gotten a goal.. I just can't really remember Hleb, probably because we are used to technical players like him whereas Ljungberg's endless runs caused us much more problems. He could also have taken off Cesc.. too lightweight for defending when you are a man down.

There wasn't anyone else to take off in his place. Ljungberg had his best game for a long time in the CL final so it was the correct decision to leave him on the pitch. We had to play most of the game with 10 men so it's not surprising that Wenger took off the oldest midfielder, and the one who would probably contribute the least to the defensive side of the game and who may not have had the stamina or work ethic of the other midfielders.
