    Tavano sold to Valencia

Empoli hitman Francesco Tavano has officially completed his move to Spanish giants Valencia, announced the club.

Tavano hit the headlines this season with 19 Serie A goals, making a large contribution to their safety from relegation.

He had been linked with Juventus, Fiorentina, Milan and Inter – his favoured option, being a self-avowed life-long Nerazzurri supporter.

However, the Italian sides chose different avenues and so he has been sold to La Liga contenders Valencia.

The 27-year-old has been compared to Enrico Chiesa for his shooting style and played for Pisa and Rondinella before joining Empoli in 2001-02.

Valencia director of sport Amedeo Carboni, a former Roma star, personally guided the move to a successful conclusion. No financial details about the deal have been confirmed.

The Spanish side hasn't had too much luck with Italian players recently. Stefano Fiore, Bernardo Corradi and Marco Di Vaio all failed to settle in and sought loan moves back to the peninsula.

Bloody hell... that came out of nowhere. Not sure it's a great move for him to be honest. No doubt a great player and a great club, but as the article points out, too many italian's have gone there and failed.

He'll work very well with David Villa though, IMHO. If he's a success Valencia could do really well. I think he'll be better suited to the Champions League games though, should they qualify.

I take it they're not interested in Martins then? Neutral

Im not sure about that....Villa, Tavano, Morientes and Martins would be a nice mixture.

Yeh, if they get Martins. I am quite doubtful though.

I am shocked that none of the top Italian sides went for Tavano, he is so awesome.... I am actually hoping to see Toni-Tavano combo for the azzurri this year (unlikely now).

I hope Valencia do not waste him... they have recently been a graveyard for the Italians...
