Italian coaches, best of the new breed... Empty Italian coaches, best of the new breed...

The top clubs in Italy are now led by a new breed of Italian coaches.... even the national team has a new breed coach... how do you rate these guys? Some of them amy not be young or inexperienced (Prandelli, Spalletti) but they are new to top flight football.... so who is the new superstar??

    (no club bias please!)

Ancelotti is the best out of that lot - overall:

    1. Mourinho/Benitez
    2. Ancelotti

Ancelotti has had to play certain players and certain systems to please his Chairman and he has still often produced beautiful/cohesive football.

The pretentious SKY Sports/BBC/Observer "purists" would have a fit at this but over the last few years they've played some of the best passing football in Europe - easily as good or better than Arsenal and at times Barca.

Our football writer of the year described them as "a stifling team" last season and said this was at odds with the other 3 semi finalists.

Yeah, 'cos Villarreal and Arsenal were really attack-minded in CL last year Erm

I voted Ancelotti too, but I thought he was part of the old guard?

Ancellotti has had a lot of success compared to the others, but he is still a very young coach.... he was teammates with some of them (Donadoni) and was actually a teammate of maldini! Prandelli and Spalletti are much older, but they made their way up the ranks unlike Ancelotti/Mancini/Donadoni who got big breaks coz of their reputation as a player. They all started their coaching career in late 90s, or early 2000s (Mancini/Donadoni)

That said, tactically I rate Prandelli so much more. His senior coaching career:

    - Lecce: 1997 - got sacked in first season
    - Verona: 98-00: got them promoted to Serie A in first season, and finished 9th in Serie A in the next season.
    - Parma: 02-04: some of the most brilliant coaching with little means, awesome transfer strategy, this is easily his best period - where roma picked him up from but he resigned due to personal reasons
    - Fiorentina: took a relegation threatened team to CL qualification in his first season!!! In his second season, Fiorentina started with a 15 point penalty and now are 6 points off a CL spot!!

He has clearly shown amazing ability to do extremely well with little means, and now taken that to another level by excelling with good players... IMO, he is the man to watch.

A bit more experienced (over 15 years as a coach, at least??), but hardly in the same class... sorry!

To be honest, I am a bit divided between Prandelli and Spalletti myself... but with every Viola win, I am turning in Prandelli's direction...

He is not that bad... he was great at Livorno... and he has won his last 2 games as the Italy coach, after a struturing start...

well it takes a bit of time to find the wining formula since he hasnt tried to copy italys WC tactics but make his own style on the team. it might take a while since he might be waiting for totti to be an option.

Yeah, but you can't judge a guy after 5-6 games, 2 of which he played without his top 20 players....

But yeah, in my eyes, Donadoni is where mancini was 2 years ago... it was premature of FIGC to pick him...
