Valencia have won the battle to sign Getafe's highly-rated centre-half Alexis, according to Spanish reports.

Alexis only joined Getafe from Malaga last summer, but has been an important figure in the team boasting the meanest defence in La Liga.

Real Madrid and Milan had been keen on the defender, while he rejected a move to Fiorentina earlier this month.

Reports had suggested Real were favourites to sign Alexis, but he has now accepted a contract with Valencia until 2013 after passing a medical.

He had a buy-out clause of €8million (£5million) in his contract, but Valencia will pay €6million (£4million) and allow Miguel Pallardo and Pablo Hernandez to go in the opposite direction.

With Roberto Ayala agreeing to join Villarreal next season, Valencia have been looking to bring in defensive reinforcements.

Alexis will now pitch up at the Mestalla in the summer, three years after the Che had originally tried to sign him from Malaga.

Meanwhile, reports also claim that Valencia have lined up a deal to bring in Nigerian midfielder Sunny from Polideportivo Ejido next season.

Sunny has secured a Spanish passport and could join for €3million (£2million), with Valencia loaning out some young players as part of the deal.

I have to admit I am jealous of Valencia, I really like the way they believe in Spanish talent. However, if we get Metzelder for free then I don't mind not signing Alexis.

Apparently Valencia are also hot on the trail for Hildebrand as the long-term replacement for Cañizares.

Yup. Me too. I mean, their entire squad is almost all spanish. And it looks like most of the spanish players want to go there rather than play for us or you.
I wanted Alexis to be bought by us, but well, i wanted also Morientes to be considered instead of Guddy during the summer....

Isn't Metzelder always on the injured lists, even though he is undoubtedly very talented? Should have pushed for Alexis.

Could have used Raul "Best player in Madrid inclusive of Zidane and Ronaldo" Bravo to sweeten the deal, or even just plain Raul now there is killing 2 birds with 1 stone.

From what the German posters have said, it seems like all of Metzelders injury problems are behind him now and he has played consistently, injury-free for sometime. So hopefully that is the case and he is more "Milito" than "Woodgate".

I wish we had a better relationship with Getafe. Their president is actually a socio of Real Madrid and he always wants to bring in players from our B team on loan but we never agree. I think it would be a great arrangement because our youngsters like De la Red, Javi Garcia, or Granero could go and get great first divsion experience. Getafe would benefit by having some talented players to help them keep their first division status. And because if the proximity it would be easy to follow the progression of our players on loan. Win-win. In fact, that is what Valencia have done loaning players like Gavilan and Albiol to Getafe. And when they come back they are ready to make significant contributions to the first team. Oh well...we will never learn I suppose.

I think there is a fear that loaning Bravo to them might suddenly make them win the treble and causing your demise. Who would be foolish enough to bring about their own demise?

Though your club is as capable as any in doing that

Laugh Well, that's why we only loan Bravo to clubs abroad. I guess the directors have been doing at least a little bit of thinking.

Sergio Sanchez is suppose to be just as good as Alexis so it would have been a waste of money signing Alexis if we have the talent in Castilla.

RM always manage to cock up decent signings... ffs.

Well Andrade + Metzelder wouldn't be too bad, both aren't getting any younger to be fair.

i kind of figured that we wouldnt get alexis when reports popped up that we were after metzelder. i was hoping that it meant we were going for both. now we just need to get woodgate back and we should have our first team centre defence settled.

Metzelder's only 26...and Andrade 28? Maybe 29. Not old to be sure.

Yeah but a central pairing of Alexis & Ramos could have lasted up for 10 odd years tbh. With Sanchez and Metzelder as back up..

But it will be good to have Metzelder's experience. If it ends up being Sergio Ramos and Metzelder, that partnership will be good for many years.

I have a bad feeling Helguera will still be with us next year.
