How many of you are aware of this:
Under FIFA law a player under 28 can leave for a club in another country once they have spent three years at one club as long as the side he joins takes up his contract.
Examples:
FC Barcelona could land Arjen Robben for as little as €6m if the player chooses to invoke a rarely used FIFA law that allows him to buy out his current contract.
After moving from PSV Eindhoven in 2004, Robben falls into the category and if he was to go down that path then Barça would have to pay €6m for the two years left on his deal at Stamford Bridge. http://goal.com/en/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=266425
Inter are in the running to sign Porto players Pepe and Ricardo Quaresma for less than £11m during the summer.
a recent verdict in Portugal might see their asking prices slashed, as the players could be free to buy themselves out of their contracts with a fee based on their current salary.
Pepe – whose full name is Kleper Laveran Lima Ferreira – could therefore leave for just £3.5m, while Quaresma may move to a new outfit for £7m. http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/mar27h.html
Robben joined Chelsea in the summer of 2004, Pepe and Quaresma joined Porto in the summer of 2004. At the end of this season all 3 players will have been at there club for 3 years. If they are still on the same contract when they signed for the club then these values could well be true.
