    A player's contract Empty A player's contract

Can some one please clear up what one of these actually means, it's just that when a player signs a new 4 year deal for example what does that mean? the player can still leave even with the contract so what exactly is the point of it?

well it's quite obvious, a new contract doesn't rule out the chance of a transfert, but increases dramatically the current club power in the talks with a possible buyer.
It's just that the latter can't say anymore "Fuck you, we won't pay what you ask and we'll get the player next year when his contract expires without giving you a penny".

Not true. The player cannot legally sign for another club while under contract (except under the new rules they can buy themselves out of the last 12 months of their contract without the club having any say in it).

The player can refuse to play, or more likely just play badly, but if a club is prepared to pay their wages to keep them in the reserve team there's nothing the player can do.

Realistically though, once a player is unsettled, most clubs can't afford to keep them in the reserves.

Although he signed for 4 years if the club and player decide that he may leave (if the price is right) he may leave. if he is still under the 4 years the club has to agree to his release and receive compensation ($$)
