Otto- I could sue you for copyright
Speaking of GREAT FOOTBALL EXPERTS, weren't you satisfied with Deisler's incisive response? I've rarely come across such a respected voice of authority in the field. Beginning to think the Board's Teutonic Poster of the year (as voted for by the general public) might actually be a member of MENSA. A bona fide genius amongst us.
Forget about starting threads about English Soldiers in Iran, or German Conquests in Handball- you should be campaigning for the creation of a Deisler Board in honour of the greatest German export since the mullet

Re: are England a TOP 20 - team ?
Germany proved they were still one of the big boys when they went onto win the WC on their home soil...
Oh wait that was Italy wasn't it.
France, Italy and Brazil are the current "big 3 countries" if you want to use such a term. Germany haven't looked like winning anything since '96.
They showed even on home soil that they will always get outclassed by top draw opposition. Argentina were dominating until they decided they'd rather have a nice nap than win the WC.
I'm not sure Germany can really be considered in the top 5 of European football anymore. Spain, England, Portugal, Italy and France all consistently produce players that outshine the Germans at CL level.
Perhaps Germany should just be banned from football to save further embarrassment. I hear you guys are rather good at handball, maybe you could give rugby and cricket a go.

i agree. i want to say that england has potential to be in the top 10 for sure but the thing is that they never show this potential.unless a good coach comes in this generation has been a waste.todo wrote:as I've said, I think England are between 7th and 15th. today they may be closer to 15th, but things may change.

There is a point in it...But Germany was 2nd in WC 2002 and 3rd WC 2006.Hardly a "horrible" record.SteveOoO wrote:Germany proved they were still one of the big boys when they went onto win the WC on their home soil...

It's true rugby could be more funnier with the Germans...It's so easy for France to win "le tournoi des 6 nations"
Ireland have a wonderful player with O'Driscoll..Ireland to win the rugby WC in France <ale>

Re: are England a TOP 20 - team ?
they've reached the quarters of the last cups they participated.
now suppose they beat Brazil and Germany in the next friendlies (even at home) and then qualify for the Euro. thay'd be back to the top 8. they'd probably reach the quarters again, or even the semis, though I don't think they would be among the favourites to win.
for me, top five now are the big4 (we all know who they are, the ones that win away WCs) + Portugal.

As Arnaud said, 2nd and 3rd in two of the World Cups since then isn't bad for a team that "hasn't looked like winning anything" since then.
They showed even on home soil that they will always get outclassed by top draw [sic] opposition. Argentina were dominating until they decided they'd rather have a nice nap than win the WC.
Thgis just proves Blut's point that it's pointless arguing with the English fans on here, since you can just wildly assert whatever you like – it's not as if there's any need to bother with anything so prosaic as facts. An extremely even game where Argentina were wrong in hindsight to go defensive in tactics, but a decision inspired by the fear of conceding...

Obviously just a wind-up, but still, it might be worth watching something other than England at international level once in a while...

France are no longer in the top 3. Argentina can have it.
Oh and Arnaud, France, by far the largest country in the 6/5 Nations, have been less successful than England.
Could you imagine how poor you'd be If we were so cruel as to form British teams?

Because Otto's obsession with posting not too complimentary posts all over the International board and the off-topic (have a gander at the dig at the English soldiers recently captured) dont deserve some return banter I suppose eh?
Otto + Deisler = enough WUM posts to last a lifetime,
so I say well done Steve0o, its not in our nature to allow loosely hinged Germans launch offensives without some kind of defence, just dont cry when we return fire

No i can't imagine something like that. The thing i can imagine is the NZ and irish teams kicking arses after arses during the next WC.The WC final will be Ireland-NZ or NZ-France.I can't see a good torunament for the english this time.Wales won easily against you lot...it was a lesson.

France will win it; Chirac will use all those bribes hes been saving up to pay off the rest of the teams before he gets indited.

Chirac will have long since left office by the time of the RWC. Should be a France-NZ final though who knows, Ireland could indeed go all the way to the final. But should really have put free money on the All Blacks long ago – this time it would take a choke of monumental proportions for them to screw up.
Still, here's hoping against all common sense for a repeat of that 1999 semi-final...

Re: are England a TOP 20 - team ?
DOn't know if England is in the top 20 (maybe)but i found an interresting article from bbc sports after the WC.This comments are from WADDLE (best english player ever)
We haven't played well, we had years to prepare and nothing's changed, we are a quarter-final team and no more.
Every time we play a team with a bit of craft and skill we can't deal with it.
It's such a burden on our shoulders knowing that we are no good at penalties and we have to make sure we win the game and not put ourselves through that.
We have got to face reality that we are a team nowhere near the top seven countries in the world.
We pay good money to watch our players in the Premiership and they are very well paid.
But we have got to wake up in this country and realise that we are not a great team.
We coach too much at a young age and we take the skill away from our youngsters.
Look at Cristiano Ronaldo, Simao, Pauleta. We don't have a player anything like that. Every other country has one, but we don't.
We have got to go back to basics and teach skill to the youngsters.
These experts said England is the team in the world before the WC but after their failure England become a bad team for them all...oh dear!
