Mouthwatering tie - potentially the most entertaining couple of games about to be played across both competitions this week, & next.

    Chevanton says they've scouted us:

    Chevanton: Spurs will be tough

Ernesto Chevanton does not believe that Sevilla are favourites to win their Uefa Cup quarter-final with Tottenham and states that it will be a tough encounter.

The Spanish high-flyers meet the Premiership club on Thursday in the first leg in Seville and know that they must chalk up a good result before heading to White Hart Lane next week.

Sevilla have been doing their homework and Chevanton revealed that the squad watched Spurs' victory over Reading on Sunday and picked out their strong points.

Despite being in a race for the Spanish title, while the North London club are looking to earn a place in the Uefa Cup next season, the Uruguayan striker does not think that his team are stronger.

"In this tie I do not see a favourite," he said. "I think the team that will win is the one that commits less errors and takes advantage of the opposition's mistakes.

"Tottenham won on Sunday and from what we have seen they have a good team.

"They are a side that works very hard and play a lot of direct balls as they have a tall and very technically gifted striker.

"It will be a very difficult game.

"But Sevilla have proved over the past couple of years the quality that we have and it is normal that people will say how good we are."

Chevanton made a rare start for Sevilla up front in the goalless draw against Osasuna at the weekend and was pleased with his performance.

"I felt good because I had the opportunity to start although, regrettably, we did not win," he explained.

"What was important was not to lose, because we do not have a great record up there."

I don't like what he means by "direct". Apart from the odd defensive clearance, or Robinson punt - I'd hardly call our build-up play that. Obviously didn't see us vs. Braga.

Can't wait for it, though sadly for Spurs I see Sevilla prevailing - though its great that you have the first leg away - if you'd been at home first your chances would have been pretty bad.

You need to convert all the chances you get - you seem to have been doing an Arsenal this season: playing good football and creating chances but not finishing as many as you should

Sevilla rested Kershakov, Kanouté and Poulsen this weekend.. I expect a tough and close match with Sevilla edging it.

    Don't forget, Alves too.

I really can't see Spurs winning this match, Sevilla are better in all departments of the game IMO. Spurs' will need to rely on individual magic from Lennon and Berbatov, but I don't know if their weak left side can cope with Dani Alves if he's in the mood.

I wish the semis were made of of these two - AZ and Werder.

They are going to be great games. I will probably watch this one though. Sevilla will not want to lose and ruin the city's fiesta. They should prevail.

I'm thinking a final of Sevilla vs Werder?

Lee and Malbranque did really well against Reading down the left at the weekend. I know Sevilla's right hand side will be alot more difficult to contain than Reading's but Alves can't bomb forward all the time leaving room for Malbranque, who can be excellent on his day.

But when there isn't Alves bombing forward you always have Jesus Navas there. Lee will have a difficult game. thats for sure.

Lee has really picked up his game recently.

Whilst Spurs will have to watch out for Alves-Navas, Sevilla will have to watch out for Spurs attacking threat - and Lennon can drift onto the left as well so they could play 3 attacking players down the left if they wanted

Its good that Spurs are underdogs, and rightly so.

I had hoped sevilla might have half an eye on the league, but since they've rested a number of players on the weekend, its pretty obvious they are taking the UEFA cup very seriously.

Spurs defence is shaky and thats my worry- no King, and Rocha has been dodgier than a 3 day old curry in recent games. Dawson is exceptional in the air, but will be vulnerable to Sevilla on the ground.

The form of Berbatov is the key. Should he play like he did against Bolton at WHL, he is almost unplayable. Should he play like he did against Reading, its going to be too tough.

Lennon V Alves will be interesting should it arise. Acid test for the young man

    ok

Good assessment. Sevilla are the favourites in this game. Sevilla are more constant while Spurs are too hot and cold.

I predict Dracula to have a good game though.

Good point. Sevilla's central defensive pair is a bit dodgy relative to the rest of the team so Berbatov can really exploit it. And not just him, I didn't mention Keane in my initial post, but he'll be key as well. His running off the ball and vision is probably among the best in the Premiership, and he can really create some great openings for Berbatov.

Zokora's turning into an absolute beast protecting the back 4 lately - showing what all the fuss was about at the WC.

Any idea on the squad for tonight?

    Huddlestone is injured.

jol doesn't seem the type that would change formation just because its a better team, so my guess would be:

    ---------------Robinson--------------

    Chimbonda---Dawson---Rocha------Lee

    Lennon-------Zokora---Jenas--Malbranqe

    -----------Keane---Dracula---------

Oh dear, Stalteri playing is a little worrying.

Spurs' backline is shaky at best. If Berbs, Keane and Lennon arent firing upfront it could be a traumatic 1st leg.

Stalteri has been good whenever he's played though.

Aside from that goal vs. West ham, he pocketed Robben in the 1st F.A Cup 1/4 final, and did well against Braga. Funny how everyone's worried about those two, when they are literally the only members of the squad (with Berbatov) who've had experience at the latter stages of European competition like this in the lasty 2-3 years. Would say Keane & Jenas, but we must be talking at least 4-5 years for the pair of them, and sadly Rocha is cup tied.
