    superbly executed

Arguments have started as to whether this is really new, i've certainly seen players do it before, but its apparently now been called the "Aurelio" after the coach at Roma who dared Taddei (whos done it in training plenty of times) to pull it off in a match. Its also been called the "hocuspocus"

It sounds like typical Roma behaviour to claim a trick to be new and say they invented it despite the fact its been done many times before Rolling Eyes

haha - well all i can say is theres no way i'm gonna even try it in training tonight

Whether or not its been done before, When Taddei does it in that particular circumstance its a total showcase for that skill - his balance and poise, its all pretty much perfect.

it is nice to see a trick like that, that actually has a practical use in a match. Unlike several such as the Rabona (whats wrong with a normal cross?) And players that do stepovers for effect rather than purpose - as well as plain showing off that gets the crowd going but doesnt actually beat a player

*and the scorpion save i might add - no purpose+all showing off - infact very negative since the keeper could simply catch the ball*

People pay money to be entertained though, when you're 3-0 I think that players have a moral duty to showboat

I saw Cesar Cueto (Peruvian midfield maestro from 70's-80's) do that trick. Uribe also used to do that (Peru and Sporting Cristal). Juninho from Palmeiras, and the other Brasileiros aforementioned. <Ale>

I agree with your point, however the rabona can be quite effective and useful sometimes. Aquilani executed an UNBELIEVABLE rabona that led to an amazing Roma goal in a match against us in the Serie A this season. One of the best plays i've ever seen in a football match Wink

The rabona for a bad player might be a useless trick, like stepovers also for the untalented. For a skillfull and talented player, its helpfull, as the defenders usually don't prepare themselves for that pass / trick, as it is unexpected..

The tricks are very underrated by most fans. Sometimes it is just show boat, but for a true great talent, it is a true weapon. Not only the trick itself, but because it enlarges the number of options the defender has to worry about.

The 'trivela' (side foot kick, pass or cross) for many is taken as a useless trick, as you could do the shot, cross or pass with the normal part of the foot. If you are defending a player like Quaresma, the master of 'trivela' , if you defend him in a regular way when he is on the left side of the pitch, you're expecting him to cross with the left foot (weaker), or having to prepare the right foot cross (turn 90 or 180º, having to use time), so you prepare how to defend that play. With the trivela he has the chance to cross or shoot with no opposition. Or if the defender is alerted to that, he is more unbalaced for a dribble, changing speed, and so on.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFopSa2tom4

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aViA2fOaKls

The keyword is the more (quality) options you have as an attacker, the worst the defender can act.

yeah i remember seeing him make "trivela" last season i think and i thought it was just a one timer then a couple of weeks later i see it again from around the same area. now i have seen it some time but its great every time whether its a shot on goal or a cross. hopes he joins a spanish club this summer(not atletico).

cool, do you play for a team then?

I was reading an article in 4-4-2, an interview with Eto'o. Quite interesting, but one thing he said that was significant is that that "Ronaldinho doesn't do any trick in a match that he hasn't practiced successfully against a defender 1000 times before in training" proving that even for the most gifted of players, its all about practice and not just "a moment of inspiration"

Yeah i do agree with you about that, the big advantage of the Trivela (aside from what you've mentioned, which is all true and fair enough) is that you can cross with the same foot you carry the ball with, and can cross or shoot with very little backlift. Queresma also has the absolutely fantastic talent of turning a normal "carrying the ball with the outside of the foot touch" into a shot if you know what i mean, so that there's pretty much 0 backlift and the defender or goalkeeper cant see it coming - the defender steadies himself to be taken on, whilst the goalkeeper stays on his toes waiting for when he thinks the shot will come. A well performed trivela can leave a keeper rooted to the spot.
