European version of Soccer AM's Teammates Empty European version of Soccer AM's Teammates

Post by fcb Mon Apr 30, 2007 5:22 pm

I saw some clips on Youtube of the Teammates segment that they do on Soccer AM. Thought it'd be interesting to do a European version, based on what us fans can see on the pitch or know through other sources.

    I'll start off with Barcelona:

    Best Trainer:
Puyol, Xavi, or Iniesta. Probably one among them.

    Worst Trainer:
    Easy. Ronaldinho by a mile.

    Most skilful:
Lots of choices, but it's obviously got to be Ronaldinho.

    Quickest:
Hmm, tricky one - I'd probably go with Giuly. Though Messi has tremendous acceleration with the ball at his feet, and Etoo is no slowpoke either.

    Hard man:
Puyol on the pitch...but overall probably Thuram. You get the feeling he can go in much harder in tackles than he actually does, for fear of Liga referees constantly carding him.

    Most intelligent:
    Oleguer or Thuram.

    Least intelligent:
Hmm, Valdes looks like an idiot.

    Worst Dress Sense:
I don't really know much about this, but some of the pictures of players in off-pitch events or interviews on the official website are good hints. Edmilson comes out with some shocking t-shirts, and Ronaldinho always has the "gangster" look going on, which I hate.

    Biggest Moaner:
    Etoo. No explanation needed Laughing

    Longest in the shower:
No idea. Probably Puyol or Ronaldinho because of their hair.

Depends on whether Zambrotta shaves his face while he showers... cause that must take ages..

+ I am sure that Zambrotta, Eto'o and Motta spend ages on scrubbing their skin applying millions of different cleansers and lotions..

    Best Trainer:
laursen. for getting fit again after a bazillion injuries.

    Worst Trainer:
berger. got sent off to stoke for not playing for the reserves.

    Most skilful:
probably one of the new'ns: young or maloney.

    Quickest:
    agbonlahor

    Hard man:
    mellberg. bearded swede.

    Most intelligent:
    petrov sounds quite smart.

    Least intelligent:
possibly, you know, young, you know, or, you know, agbonlahor. or hendrie.

    Worst Dress Sense:
have no idea but hendrie must look like a 12 year old whatever he wears, so it has to be him.

    Best Trainer:
    Dawson probably.

    Worst Trainer:
    Mido, Danny Murphy

    Most skilful:
Berbatov for technique. Keane, Malbranque & Jenas for tricks.

    Quickest:
Lennon, but Defoe, Jenas & Zokora are not far behind.

    Hard man:
    Chimbonda or Mido

    Most intelligent:
I'd back Young-Pyo Lee, Huddlestone, Malbranque & Stalteri

    Least intelligent:
Don't really think anyone in our 1st team is a thicko. Lennon at a push - but only 'cos he comes from and acts extremely ghetto.

    Worst Dress Sense:
Naybet has left, but I'd go for Zokora. Though Huddlestone has taken a lot of stick over those "Pyjamas".

    Biggest Moaner:
    Keane, Robinson.

    Longest in the shower:

Chimbonda, & Ifil. Got to maintain those Corn rows, right?

    Best Trainer:
Hard to say really, they all seem to give 100%, id say its between S.Ramos/Raul/Beckham

    Worst Trainer:
    Cassano

    Most skilful:
    Robinho

    Quickest:
    Probably Robinho or Cicinho

    Hard man:
    Diarra & S.Ramos

    Most intelligent:
    Raul

    Least intelligent:
Guti, Cassano, R.Carlos ... take your pick

    Worst Dress Sense:
No idea, im gonna go with Diarra, he always seems to get stick from his team mates due to his strange choice in boots or his hair style.

What makes you think that? Puyol would do perfectly well against Bolton or Watford or any physical Premiership team. He's just like John Terry in that he can play on with injuries, loves the club and will throw himself in the way of anything, and is never afraid to put in a tackle.

He is very strong and not afraid to get stuck in (ask Henry).. But I would probably say it is Márquez or Motta since both these guys seem to love to just go over the limit..

Motta and Marquez aren't really hardmen, they just don't know how to time their challenges, giving them a false image. In fact, Marquez likes to think of himself as a ball playing defender, which he can be if he actually concentrates.

But how many defenders look strong against Drogba? Very few. And the fact that our defense isn't set up to play well against crosses/long air balls, makes it look even more bad when Chelsea play us.

Vidic also is a tough comparison, he's obviously one of the most physical defenders in a very physical league.

Comparing him with Terry is also unfair ,Terry is very good in the air and quite strong, that are Terry's best attributes.
I would really compare him with Carvalho , good in air , brave and can pass.

I don't know much about Kevin Davies but I assume he's someone really good at headers and has good upper body strength.

Basically, let's put it this way - if this was a Spanish show, "hard man" wouldn't even be on the list of questions. That's a very typical English football term, so I don't see the big deal about us not having a big, overly physical guy.

Edit: Exactly, Carvalho in Spain or Portugal would probably be a "hard man".

Kas is right in that that is very English. I would say Puyol is fairly tough though. So passionate for the Barca cause. There are a few "hard men" in La Liga though. A hard mans performance could be Ayala's against Chelsea for example. He certainly roughed Sheva and Drog up. The lovely "hola" shoulder barge on Sheva was sweet.

agreed. ayala on form is the best still. always incredible calm and it spreads to this teammates.and like you said he can be very hard which drogba noted after the first leg against valencia where he said ayala was the hardest he had come up against.
