The recruitment campaign has already begun in earnest as Steve Sidwell, Claudio Pizarro and Alex have all arrived as free transfers and their new taskmaster believes he already has the squad in place to reclaim the title they lost to Manchester United in the campaign just past.

This is just old news.

Alex is not really a free like reported, but is on a sort of complicated loan to PSV, that when Chelsea would want him, they could get him in the transfer period for very little compensation.
A sort of Chelsea first dibs clausule.

Yeh the whole background finance was that we bought him a while back, then because he couldnt get a permit we loaned him out to PSV where we pay part of his wages, and so can have him return from his loan for 50p.

I remember when Alex first came to Europe (it was pre-Abramovich I think), the article I read mentioned a fee of 5 million pounds.

I thought Alex was on loan to PSV...

Why would Chelsea have to pay out? At most, perhaps a fee for bringing him back earlier.

Caneira is at Sporting, but Valencia can get him back during the summer break every year until his contract with them is up.

Man U and Liverpool forking out £50m a year to keep up with our free transfers Puro said Pizarro was coming to Chelsea weeks ago but I didn't realise it was yet another Bayern free transfer. Bayern must be really upset at selling Hargreaves and actually getting some money for him. It goes against the grain. Alex looked an excellent player against Arsenal in the CL.

Yes I was at the game. Mind you it was the first leg misses that really cost Arsenal the tie. Whilst Alex was good in defence he also scored one of the two goals that PSV scored in the two matches and of course he scored Arsenal's only goal (doh!). His absence made a big difference in the tie against Liverpool.

No, I meant they bought him for 5mill back then, and loaned him to PSV.

So Chelsea are happy with Pizza , good luck to them , dont complain when he starts moaning about not being picked or not allowed to take the pens etc.

Lets hope it works out well for him though.
