Best summer of spending for your club?

With hindsight, what was the best summer of spending that you club has had?

For me, the 97 summer when we signed Overmars, Vieira, Anelka and Petit. four top class players.

I can't remember how much our spend was that summer but it can't have been more than £20m and it won us the title.

Vieira arrived before the other players Tweeds, he even arrived before Wenger took his first game at Arsenal.

But yes that was probably our best Summer of spending. Compare it to 2001 minus the brilliant Sol Campbell when we brought in Richard Wright, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Jun-Ichi Inamoto and our biggest flop ever Francis Jeffers. That wasn't so good, what makes it even more mystifying is taht we did the double that year.

In a few years time I think we will look back and think the Summer 2006 was good. William Gallas, Tomas Rosicky and the promising Denilson all look like they will leave their mark on the club.

i think one year brian little brought in southgate, ian taylor, savo milosevic, and ginger god tommy johnson. was quite good

95 was pretty good - Keith Gillespie, Les Ferdinand, Warren Barton, David Ginola, and Shaka Hislop. A few nuggets were bought aswell though, Darren Huckerby being one of them.

96 was decent also - Asprilla, Batty, and Shearer. No nuggets were bought either.

Summer of 1996 was pretty impressive: Suker, Mijatovic, Seedorf, and Illgner.

1998

Stam and Yorke -we won the treble

2001

Ruud and Veron - We didnt win anything that year, but its the most excited I have been in the transfer window, ever. AS Veron was my favourite player in Seri A and I used to watch Lazio just to see him play. Ruud had scored lots of goals in the CL and Dutch league and looked liked the true world class striker, we never had.

It was rubbish that we didnt win anything, but we played some wonderful football and I will never forget the game against Spurs (5-3) and the Depor games in the QF, were Veron was trully awesome.

PS I am ignoring the fact that we sold our best defender and replaced him with a retard who couldnt run.

We haven't signed any players since then that have improved the squad.

Beleive it or not Belletti did improve our squad back then
