I want to say no, but he'll then definitely score in the next 45 of this "football" match.

Makes me very happy, but i would dispute that far fetched claim of him once having any ability.
Some stats i found.
England appearences. Played 19 Goals 1 Yellows 1 Red 1
Newcastle games Played 26 goals 0 assists 0 yellows 8 reds 1
Also he hasnt scored in over 7 months.

Everton match vs Neville. Or are you not justifiably counting Neville as a footballer.A Tribe Called TS™ wrote:COTR wrote:he is the English kuyt

Lrd mate...His stats are horrible ! i remember you liked him and his fighting spirit not so long ago though.I told you VN was bad for Mu style of play but the thing is that the dutch scored a lot of goals at least..Smith seems to have a lot of fans but his stats are really bad for a supposed big talent and for a forward.
Typical expensive english overated talent.

But (and this is a masterstroke) still managed to sell him for actual proper money. Fergie must have some compromising photos of other managers, the dross he manages to offload on them.

It's the same with most of the big clubs though. Arsenal got 5 million for Diarra FFS, a player who had been at the club less than six months, not broken into the first team and cost less than half that when they bought him.
Where does the extra 3 million come from? Wenger employs some very good coaches, sure, but not to that extent.

Re: Will Alan Smith ever score again?
Smith was actually pretty useful when he was at Leeds. Scored some big game goals, such as the winner in Rome against Lazio in the Champions League. Never blesswed with pace, but he worked very effectively with Viduka at Leeds.
Showed flashes of ability in his early career at United, scored a couple of good goals. I remember one in the Charity Shield against Arsenal as being a beauty.
Clearly his injury was the final nail in the coffin,
after all, lets not forget that he did finish off a peach of a goal against Roma in that 7-1 hammering.
Never likely to be the same player again though

Loads of players were better at Leeds than they were at their next club.
That's something that has me puzzled for a while now.
Even Rio was better for us than he has been for United
Kewell, Mills, Bowyer, Robinson also never reached their Leeds level again...

Not sure Rio was better at Leeds?!
Also how would you account for Robbie Keane and Robbie Fowler?

And Kuyt doesn't do it with such regularity.

Keane was okay for us (but the important players were already jumping ship at that time IIRC), Fowler was totally over the hill anyway.
I guess it was a matter of balance and being surrounded by likeminded players to bring out the best in those who peaked at Leeds.

I think this is the 1st poll to be unanimous and Rio better at Leeds than at UTD is rubbish.

Re: Will Alan Smith ever score again?
£7m great signing Big Sam. I saw Big Sam moaningon TV the other day about lack of funds but when you consider he spent £19 on Smith, Enrique and Barton (you could pretty much have Corluka, Elano and Petrov for the same amount) then he cant complain.
And to think people questioned Sven buying from abroad.

The only way he will score is with one of Wayne Rooney's mature ladies.
